CondoHotels - Is A CondoHotel Right For You?

It’s the latest rage in the hospitality industry, a condominium that acts like a hotel room. A condotel. A person owns a condotel much like a condo. The owners pay regular condo association fees, property tax, and all the other fees associated with owning real estate. Unlike time-shares, the owners are free to rent their condotels as often or as little as they like. The hotel rents out the condotel units much like a regular hotel, handling reservations and guest services. The hotel then splits the income equally with the condotel owners.

A Lifestyle Choice – A condotel is not right for everyone, and it takes a person or family wanting a specific lifestyle to get the most out a condotel. People must understand that this is not traditional real estate, and they are getting into the hotel business. Condotel owners are subject to check in and check out times, just like a traditional hotel. Many hotels will charge owners housekeeping fees during their stays. You never know who your neighbors are, since most hotel guests will differ nightly. Families looking for a stable environment may not fully enjoy the condotel experience. Retirees may not appreciate the ever changing cliental of a hotel, preferring a traditional piece of real estate with a more stable social scene. Real estate investors looking to invest in a condotel must fully understand the business they are getting into, and the many factors that can either make condotel ownership a profitable or un-profitable venture. A person or family considering a time-share property may be the best candidate for condotel ownership. The property retains the benefits of a time-share property, while producing income as a hotel room.

No Shortage of Condotels – Developers love the concept of condotels, since it allows them to recoup their initial building costs quickly with condotel sales, while maintaining ownership of the hotel common areas such as retail space, restaurants, and bars. Out of about 375,000 hotels rooms that are currently under development in the US, around 30,000 of those are designated condotel units. Another 70,000 units are currently set aside as private residences within the hotel that are not designed to be rented out on a short term basis. A majority of these units are high end, luxury units, since the higher costs associated with the units are more quickly recouped from condotel sales. This trend ensures that there will be sufficient inventory to meet the condotel demand. Many older, traditional hotels in areas such as New York City and San Diego are currently converting some of their rooms to condotel units to meet the demand of individual condotel investors.

For the right person, family or investor, a condotel makes perfect sense. Those seeking the flexibility of coming and going as they please, without the limits of a time-share, will love the idea of a condotel. People looking to turn their second home into an income producing investment will also welcome the income generated by condotel bookings. They just have to remember that they are also getting into the hotel business when buying a condotel.

Cartoons - Strips Versus Films

The English language is confusing enough, without having terms that can mean more than one thing or are interchangeable. The word cartoon is one of those terms that has people, especially researchers, scratching their heads wondering why they can’t find what they are looking for.

Depending on when you grew up, the term cartoon may mean something completely different to you than it does to a kid who grew up watching Bugs Bunny on Saturday mornings. For older folks, the term cartoon strikes up images of Lil’ Abner comic strips. For some people, it is both.

The fact of the matter is, technically, if you look up the definition of a cartoon, it really applies to both mediums. If you go by the original historic meaning of the word cartoon it refers to a full size drawing made on paper as a study for a further artwork. In other words, cartoons really weren’t finished pieces of work, much like an architects drawings for a building. the drawings are just preliminary. The buildings are the finished work. Early cartoons were usually just outlines of a subject. The details were then filled in at a later date.

In more modern times the definition of a cartoon became an illustration for a humorous intent. However, because of the advances in print and motion technology these illustrations no longer remained motionless pieces of paper. With the breakthroughs of movies like ‘Steamboat Willie’, suddenly a cartoon took on a whole new meaning. And with that whole new meaning began the confusion. You had your cartoons that continued to remain in stationary print, like your Sunday comic strips, and then you had your cartoons that took on the properties of motion, like your Saturday morning half hour shows. Suddenly, the term cartoon was just too confusing to use for both mediums. Something had to be done.

In order to remove the confusion, a new term was developed. Cartoons that were seen in print media were no longer referred to as cartoons. They became known as comic strips. These are usually a short series of illustrations to tell a story or part of one, like the daily serial strips such as Brenda Starr. The motion variety of cartoon retained its original terminology. However, it may be interesting to note that those who work on stationary print media are not referred to as comic strip artists. They are still called cartoonists. Those who make cartoons are now referred to as animators. Some would say that in trying to clear up the confusion, in some ways we’ve only made things worse.

Then of course there is the ongoing battle between cartoonists and animators themselves. Those who work at motion animation take offense at being called cartoonists. Most feel it demeans the work that they do. Cartoonists, those who actually work on cartoons (the original kind) have no problem with either label and certainly wouldn’t mind if you were to refer to them as an animator, as that tag seems to have more prestige in our modern times.

Regardless of what has or will be done to draw a distinction between comic strips and animation (notice cartoon itself is now gone) there will always be those who think of a cartoon as Bugs Bunny on a Saturday morning and those who think of it as Lil’ Abner in a Sunday paper.

There is no doubt that this battle will go on for all eternity.

Mazda Fuel Tanks Made More Durable

Filed under: Automotive — Kimberly Meyer @ 9:29 pm

Fuel tanks could be considered the container of the lifeblood of your Mazda. And that is for the very reason that Mazda fuel tanks act as the reservoir of your fuel. Without fuel, your vehicle surely would not have the capacity to go miles, and that goes the same for the fuel tank. Where would fuel be contained and stocked if not for the fuel tank? Mazda manufacturers had certainly kept in mind to design, create and produce quality, reliable, and durable Mazda fuel tanks, specially crafted for a Mazda.

A Mazda fuel tank is located in the rear of the chassis under the trunk compartment. As you operate the vehicle and press on the accelerator, the fuel in the tank revs up the engine and produces the power to run the automobile. This fuel is then directed to a complex fuel system. So, basically, the Mazda fuel tank is the storage of the fuel until vehicle needs it for operation. It also contains a drain plug found at the bottom so as for the purpose of cleaning and draining whenever necessary.

As part of the fuel system, the Mazda fuel tank is most often than not found at the rear of the chassis under the vehicle’s trunk compartment, although some vehicles possess a rear engine with the tank in the front portion of the compartment. This part of your Mazda has an inlet pipe and also an outlet pipe. The outlet pipe has a fitting for fuel line connection and could be located in the top or in the side of the tank. The lower end is about a half-inch above the bottom of the tank so as to serve the purpose of preventing any collected sediments from flushing out into the carburetor.

One fact in automobile history is that earlier vehicles had fuel tanks placed higher than the engine, thus causing a problem when the car went uphill. The gas flowed away from the engine, and you had to maneuver the vehicle backwards if you are driving up a hill.

An important factor for these Mazda fuel tanks is that it should have the proper design and construction because this certainly has the safety of the system in its grasp. Improper placement of the fuel tank has proven to lead increased probability of fire in collisions. Several automobile companies have already faced over a hundred lawsuits related to fires caused by the improper installation and location of these fuel tanks.

These Mazda fuel tanks are made of metal which are highly susceptible to deterioration, damage, and corrosion from the elements in the fuel. They are prone to rust, corrosion, and wear-and-tear as it ages. Any of these could actually damage your vehicle and affect the performance of your Mazda.

How Do Laser Guns Work?

Filed under: Automotive — Peter Smith @ 8:36 pm

The word Laser actually stands for ‘Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.’ It is a form of electromagnetic radiation the same as radio and microwaves. The difference is that light has a much higher frequency than radio or microwaves.

The light emitted by a laser is no different than any other source except that it has a unique method of generating light. The type of laser used is an infrared semiconductor laser diode. The generated light energy has a wavelength of approx. 900 nanometers, with a beam divergence of 3 millenarians, equal to a beam width of about 3 m (or ft) at 1000 m (ft). Target acquisition times range from 0.3 to 0.7 seconds.
This laser is completely eye safe, meeting FDA Class 1 specifications. This means that you could stare directly into the laser for 3 hours without any harm to your eyesight. The radiated light power on MOST lasers is in the order of 50 microwatts, or in other terms, it outputs only one twentieth the light power of a typical TV remote control, and far less than a flashlight.

This is why laser jammers using industry standard laser LED diodes are effective against laser guns. The products calculate distance by measuring the time of flight of very short pulses of infrared light. This method is different from the traditional surveying instrument method of measuring phase shifts by comparing the incoming wavelength with the phase of the reflected light. Any solid object will reflect back a certain percentage of the emitted light energy - it need only be small for the sensitive detector to pick it up. The guns measure the time it takes a laser pulse to travel to the target and back with a precision, crystal-controlled time base. Knowing the speed of light, you then calculate the distance travelled. To increase accuracy, the laser measures as many as sixty pulses, utilizing a least squares method of determining the range. Sophisticated error trapping algorithms are in place to ensure a reliable reading.

However laser jammers generate an off phase pulse which infills the phasing cycle of the laser guns making them easy to defeat.

The Ironman Swim - Time for a Wave Start?

Filed under: Recreation-and-Sports, Triathlon — Ray Fauteux @ 6:52 pm

One of the most time-honored traditions of the Ironman is the mass swim start.

It truly is a sight to behold if as spectator you are witnessing your first ironman start. You may wonder how everyone manages to survive out there with the incredible free for all that usually follows within seconds of the start gun.

Some feel its an accident waiting to happen and filled with danger for the beginner ironman. It should be mentioned that normally over 50% of any Ironman race consists of first time starters. Some have never experienced a mass swim start of this magnitude.

The key to a successful swim is to go in with a race plan that will keep you out of trouble and away from the majority of the thrashing arms and legs. Yet time after time, athletes fail to seed themselves properly and just head out with the pack, unaware of what lies ahead.

Its not unusual for some people to just stay on shore, to terrified by what they are witnessing to even get in the water. I’ve been in races where it turns out that volunteers have managed to coax swimmers into the water and eventually everything turns out for them. Its just a matter of conquering the initial fear. Normally, once a swimmer can find some room out there and find a rhythm, they begin to relax and things go smoother.

There are those that feel its time for a wave start just out of safety concerns. It could be done fairly easily considering everyone wears a timing chip anyway.

Start the pros and everyone under 60 minutes first. A minute later start a second wave of everyone between 60 and 90 minutes and then a final wave of everyone else. The theory is that this will eliminate much of the mayhem of the mass start. And most likely it would. It would also make for less congestion out on the bike course as cyclists fight for room on the road during those early kilometers.

Some of the worst accidents I’ve ever witnessed in an Ironman bike leg have been within the first 40 kilometers. Usually this is caused by over-crowding as too many cyclists jockey for position.

Personally, I don’t feel you will ever see a wave start in the Ironman. The mass start is an Ironman tradition that will never be changed easily. It would probably take a disaster of major proportions to have race officials even consider it.

That being said, I feel its up to each individual athlete to go into the Ironman swim prepared.

Go in with a workable plan that will make the swim a safe, stress-free, enjoyable experience.

After many years of messing up the swim start, I finally came up with a plan that really worked for me. Not only did I enjoy it more and avoid the mob, my times became faster.

My name is Ray and I’ve been an endurance athlete for over 25 years. I’ve competed in over 30 marathons, 2 — 50 mile races, 14 Ironman triathlons and countless shorter races.

I’ve created a website called ‘Ironstruck.’ The main purpose is to provide training and racing tips for the beginner triathlete and novice Ironman.

Seeking an alternative health education in Chinese Medicine? Instructing students an ancient healing art; Chinese medicine schools teach students how to balance the body’s ‘chi’ (life force) through energy channels. These channels are believed to be the body’s internal balancing mechanism; able to bring about natural and self healing.

Providing students with fundamental knowledge of the therapeutic benefits of acupuncture, acupressure, cupping, herbal medicine, therapeutic exercise, and nutrition, Chinese medicine schools also provide comprehensive instruction on a variety of health treatments including moxibustion, a form of heat therapy application that is believed to prevent or possibly cure disease. Additionally, students who enroll in Chinese medicine schools may opt to take in-depth courses in Qi Gong and Tai Chi.

Educating students about dietary intake comprised of nutrient-rich foods; herbs; minerals; vitamins and other necessary supplements, Chinese medicine school philosophy and educational training is built upon the basis of the Yin and Yang, the Five Elements and Zang Fu.

Chinese Medicine Schools teach a wide curriculum of therapies that are used for allergies, arthritis, weight loss, quitting smoking, stress, TMJ, PMS and other menstrual problems, back pain, musculoskeletal problems, fatigue, digestive problems, and urinary problems, in addition to many other common or chronic health issues.

Though over 2,000 years old, today Chinese medicine is still considered alternative or complementary to traditional Western medicine; but its remarkable treatments and therapies are gaining headway in mainstream healthcare. Prospective practitioners can anticipate great personal satisfaction and substantial growth in this particular career choice.

How to Write Sticky Features Articles

Are you trying to write sticky content for your website? People love to read features articles, particularly about other people who have succeeded or overcame challenges. Profiles are a great addition to your website. Your readers will be able to relate to the people you interview and empathize with them. They may even be inspired to succeed or learn from others’ mistakes. You don’t have to be a Pulitzer Prize winning author to write effective profiles. The following tips will help you choose good interviewees, formulate questions, and write a solid, thought-provoking profile.

1. Your first job is to select a good topic. Article topics are all around you, but you certainly want to choose a topic that is related to your website and newsletter. Visit bulletin boards; talk to people. Hear their stories. You are looking for people who have overcome challenges or have done something interesting or unique. For example, if you have a website related to internet marketing you may find someone who has increased her site’s unique visitors from 25 to 100,000 visitors within a day using a new marketing tool. If you are running a work at home site, you may find a person who has become a millionaire by selling knitted blankets on eBay. The stories become even more interesting if the subjects have faced particularly difficult challenges to succeed.

2. Once you have found your subject, you need to politely ask if she is willing to be interviewed. Most people will be flattered and happy to receive the publicity, especially if you offer to include a link to their website or include a short blurb about their business in the article. Other people receive so many interview requests that you may not even get a response.

3. Now you need to come up with your questions. You need basic background information, their name, location (city or state is fine) and occupation. Now, what else would you like to know about this person? How did this person achieve her goal? When she begin? How hard did she work? Was it luck? What were some of the challenges she overcame to succeed? What advice would she give to others in the the same boat? Did she expect to succeed? If the person failed at something, what did the person learn? As you interview the person, you can always add other questions based on what your subject has said.

4. Interviews can be conducted in person, by telephone, instant messenger, e-mail, or faxed questions. Ask the person if you can contact her for additional questions if you think of something else while writing the profile.

5. Writing the lead, the first paragraph of the story, can be your most difficult challenge. Your lead should capture your reader’s attention. The best leads have a twist or a surprise. Here is an example:

With more than a million hits a day, Joe Snoe has already made his first $1 million in advertising from his home-grown blog. So far, he has planned to buy his first mansion in St. Croix with his profits, as long as his parents agree. Joe is 10 years old.

See how the last sentence gave the readers a surprising twist in my made-up example?

6. Your second paragraph should tell the reader more about the subject. You can include a quote from the person you interviewed and weave in a little background information.Let’s see how that works in my Joe Snoe example.

‘I learned how to create blogs from my dad,’ said Joe, who created his video game blog when he was 9. ‘I told all of my friends at school about it, and they told their friends. Before I knew it, people were chatting about my blog on bulletin boards and advertisers were offering big money to place ads on my blog.’

Each quote should appear in its own paragraph, followed by a paragraph that paraphrases information from the person you interviewed. Use transitions, like next, although, first, now, later, etc., to move your story along.

7. Your conclusion should wrap up your story with a final thought. Consider ending with a strong quote.

‘Just last year, I was an ordinary kid who loved video games,’ Joe said. ‘Now, I am an ordinary kid who fulfilled an extraordinary, grown-up dream. If I can do it, you can too.’

Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters.

b) Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

c) Interpreted metaphorically, laterally and symbolically, allows an infinite number of varied stories to be created.

Better than Botox? There are a Few Skin Treatments that Give Botox a Run for the Money

Botox works great for instant line, furrow, wrinkle and frown reduction. The problem is it only lasts a few months, costs $300 - $600 or more, and right after the swelling heals is the best it will ever look and it slowly degrades from there. There are two other skin treatments that are also considered wonder treatments - TCA skin peels and Strivectin-SD. These can be used alone, but for a huge 15-20+ year difference in your skins youthfulness, they should be used in conjunction with one another.

TCA skin peels are, without a doubt, the most prescribed and used chemical skin peel. They are easier to use (less applications), have longer lasting effects and work on more skin problems than any other peel. TCA peels are currently used by doctors, dermatologists, and plastic surgeons throughout the country. They have been proven effective in the treatment and cure of wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne (all types), freckles, sun damage, etc… Basically, out of the three wonder products (Botox, Strivectin-SD, and TCA Peels), only TCA skin peels will remove treat damaged or problematic skin areas) and it lasts the longest for a single treatment (about 6 months to 1 year). It is also the most cost effective of the three as it is now available direct to consumers. For this reason TCA skin peels should be made a part of every skin care regimen (men and women). They are now available for in home use at a great savings - under $30 - see the link below for more information on this.

Strivectin-SD was originally formulated for stretch mark treatment and reduction. By a strange turn of events, customers started applying it to their wrinkles and faces and found it would plump their skin and lightly fade facial scars (ie acne scarring, etc…). It became one of the most sought after products on the market and its price soared to over $100 for a small tube. Compared to Botox, it doesn’t give immediate results, but according to the manufacturer, one tube of Strivectin-SD will last up to 6 months when used for wrinkles. It is also cumulative - so it slowly gets better and better. Strivectin-SD will give a more youthful appearance over time and works even better when used in conjunction with a TCA skin peel.

So there you have it, three items (Botox, TCA skin peels, and Strivectin-SD), all proven to have marked effects on facial skin. Used alone any one of them will produce visible results. Used in conjunction, one can literally make their skin look 10 - 15 years (or more) younger. All three have been used by doctors and will continue as such. The most cost effective of the three is the TCA skin peels. Regardless of which you go with, or if you go with all three, these products have been proven to create a more youthful appearance and glow.

David Maillie is an alumni of Cornell University and specializes in biochemical synthesis for public, private, and governmental interests and manufactures various skin peels and acne treatments for doctors offices and medispas. He can be reached at: http://www.bestskinpeel.com

Try These Natural Cough Remedies

Filed under: Alternative, Health-and-Fitness — Paul Newland @ 2:19 pm

For anyone suffering coughing fits (or listening to them) these natural cough remedies may help. Natural remedies include treatment for allergies, herbs, essential oils and vaporizers.

Coughs may be caused by a number of factors including allergies, vial infections and chemical infections. If there is a fever present, it may be caused by an allergy to milk.

In order to find out if you have an allergy, you can perform a pulse test on yourself – after drinking milk, take your pulse at 15, 30 and 60 minutes and if your pulse rises by more tan 10 beats per minute, you may have an allergy.

If you have trouble sleeping, steam vaporizers may help with sleep at night.

Essential oils including black pepper, cardamom, cedar wood, cypress, Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus radiata, frankincense, Helichrysium, lemon, peppermint, pine, rosemary and sandalwood may all help. These oils may be diffused into a room, inhaled or applied as a rub.

Herbs may be very helpful including: English plantain, licorice, thyme, sweet chestnut and comfrey.

A mixture of ginger, honey and lemon as a hot mixture may be just as beneficial in place of cough syrup. Make it up as a tea by first boiling some water and pouring it into a small thermos (about a litre or a quart). To this add some grated ginger and then four tablespoons each of lemon and honey.

A moderate a moderate amount of exercise is always beneficial for natural cough remedies. – don’t overdo it, particularly if the cough is in conjunction with a cold or fever.

If the cough persists, consult your health care practitioner.
