Hurricanes and Leadership Issues

Filed under: Leadership, Self-Improvement — Lance Winslow @ 11:38 pm

During the most extreme stress and trying times we often find true leaders. During that time of need when things look hopeless we often find natural leaders and there seems to be a gene for it and in any group of 20 people you will generally find 3 or 4 in the United States Population.

Usually they are men, but do not kid yourself there are a lot of women leaders in our population as well, some real class acts and tough cookies who will not break down under pressure.

Hurricanes and Leadership go hand in hand and it makes sense to take stock in your neighborhood and figure out who is who so when all hell breaks loose you know who to call to figure out a plan to get your neighborhood thru the crisis at hand. You must not rely on the government or simply assume they will take care of you and your family and your neighborhood.

In fact in most communities after 75-90 mph winds they will not go out as they might be blown over and never come back and then who is going to rescue the rescuers, you see the problems and it gets progressively worse in Hurricanes with downed trees, power poles and flying debris.

Not to mention storm surges and the deluge of rain, which follows. Hurricanes and Leadership Issues are important and it is critical that you find out in advance who those leaders in your neighborhood are, because you just might need them. Consider this in 2006.

How to Pick the Winner of the World Cup

Filed under: Recreation-and-Sports, Soccer — Jack Reider @ 10:21 pm

The World Cup is such a huge event that it has world implications in all aspects of its being. Bringing countries together from around the world just like the Olympics but bigger, that placing bets on the largest sporting event in the world can sometimes be a little tough. I am going to go over a few basic ideas of some of the best bets for the World Cup champion.

After such a long time the World Cup has returned to Germany. And many fans and sports books are anticipating this to be one of the most exciting World Cups in years. There are a couple of different favorites to win the World Cup, and making that wager correctly and winning big just takes a bit of patience.

This year there are many favorites to choose from, many teams are here but not all of them are up to the challenge of going all the way to take the trophy. Many people think of Germany being the favorite and will place a lot of money wagering on them. Because of the home field advantage and the outstanding World Cup record plus holding the most World Cup trophies that even though being a slight underdog to Argentina and Brazil, betting on Germany this year could be the key to success during this years World Cup.

Argentinas team this year is the overall powerhouse they always are. Maybe not entirely up to par this year with past World Cups, I don’t feel that placing a wager on Argentina to win would be the best bet to place. But maybe betting that Argentina will make it to the semis would be a better bet to place.

Do not forget Brazil. Brazil is the team to beat this year during the World Cup. I feel that this is the surest bet you can make this year. Playing with the worlds best soccer player, Brazil appears to be undefeatable at this years World Cup in Germany.

I feel that if you are trying to decide which team will win the World Cup this year, try to look at the teams that have prior experience in the championship game and which team is raising the most hub bub around them. But it is definitely the best thing for you to do is read a little about each team and decide for yourself. Then you will have a bit of knowledge about each team and then you can make a more educated decision.

Robinho, Robson de Souza

Date of birth: 25.01.1984
Country: Brazil
Club: Santos

Weight: 60 kg
Role: forward
Biography

A so-called “new Pele” appears in Brazil every year. Football journalists often give this name to good, but not super-talented, footballers. Recently we have an opportunity to watch a birth of a new football “miracle”.
And Pele himself has opened this “miracle”. In 1999 a great guru came back to his dear Santos to be a couch for growing youth. During the first day of his work he noticed a 15-years-old guy named ROBINHO.
After training Pele came to a boy and told he reminded him of himself in his young years. And really, they physically resembled each other a lot – both swarthy, thin and with cheeky smiles, that throw into confusion.
Pele was very glad to such a windfall. This teenager coped with a ball capitally. Pele invited a boy’s father for the next training. A great player worried that atmosphere a boy was brought up in can damage his football carrier.

Brazil – is the largest manufacturer of beef, sugar, coffee… and professional footballers in the world. Young guys from all cities do want to be footballers – this dream is probably the most popular in Brazil. Ability to play football – is one of signs of their nationality. But social inequality is also widespread in Brazil. Whereas middle class earns money, comparable to European, the poorest groups are just leading a beggarly life. Football is one of few ways to escape poverty for millions of Brazilian boys. There’s also sad alternative – crimes and sale of drugs.
ROBINHO had to come through all these troubles. He was born in one of the poorest district of the city. His father was a usual plumber, mother – a charwoman. His family had no money. His only passion was playing with a ball since morning till night. ROBINHO managed to avoid traps of poor Brazilian youth – drugs and delinquency.

But let’s return to that training. Father came with his son the following week. Pele was asking a boy’s father about his son’s behavior at home and in school for a long. Soon the “Football King” had to change his line, but his admonitions were not lost on them.
Three years later, being 18, Robin made his debut in Santos main team. His team friend Diego and he became starts of the season. In 2002 this couple leaded Santos to a champion’s title in national Brazilian championship… 20 years later. Diego showed his worth as a creative half-back, but Robinho eclipsed everybody. Young forward managed to score 9 goals in 29 matches.
He showed striking dribble and confused rival’s full-backs with almost offensive ease. This footballer even had his own trick «pedalada». ROBINHO was very nimble and playful, e real Brazilian style could be observed in his behavior on field. Newspapers started calling this guy a genius – a talent, which is born once in a generation. According to a season’s results, ROBINHO was called the best Brazilian “goal kicker”.

In 2004 ROBINHO “ exploded” – 21 goals in 36 matches. His impetuous ascent could be compared to a space flight. According to a season’s results, press and fans made a fuss of him. In the end of 2004 a tragedy took place in his family – his mother was abducted. Two months later Marina was found, they managed to get her back for ransom.
Recently in Germany Confederations Cup took place, where ROBINHO managed to show his worth in an “adult” team and even play in final against Argentina.
European grands – Real, Chelsea, Milan, Bavaria, Liverpool and Barcelona have been hunting for this guy all these years. Today ROBINHO’s dream is to move to Europe. Clubs have just to fix up financial problems. However, many fans consider ROBINHO is still not ready for Europe.

Performance attributes

We can enumerate ROBINHO’s advantages as long as we can. We will just note that this guy is one of the most “cunning” players in South America. “Little Robin” has wonderful tactics, excellent dribble, quick feet and splendid speed.

But there’re also minuses. Sometimes ROBINHO’s realization leaves much to be desired. Moreover, there’s certain instability, forward has recessions. But all this can be due to his young age.

Cure A Headache

A bad headache can be a big part of totally trashing your day. Talking to people can be horrendous. You start to get grumpy, not wanting to work or play or do anything but sit in bed and perhaps watch a movie. What can you do about these demon headaches? What causes them, and how can you make them go away?

Headaches in effect come in two types: migraines and tension headaches. Migraines are caused by the contraction of blood vessels in the brain, the result is a buildup of pressure in the brain and the headache pain that follows. A tension is caused by constant muscle tension, usually in the back of the neck and the upper head. It’s the relentless pressure and tension in these muscles that causes a tension headache.

It can prove to be quite a job to cure headaches, especially if you have a migraine headache. Some drug manufacturers have released drugs invented particularly to cure headaches of this sort, with mixed results. Some people have great results with one particular drug while others will get no benefit whatever. It’s frequently best to try different solutions and dosages to see what gives the most suitable results for you, and it pays to consider talking to your doctor about a prescription headache medicine also.

Fortunately, it’s easier to cure headaches stemming from tension, as the cure usually just involves decreasing the amount of tension in the upper neck. Massaging your own neck is often one of the swiftest cures, as is resting your neck if it’s usually under stress. Try rolling your head forward slowly, over to one side, then the other. Though rolling your head back can be bad for your neck and throat, it sometimes helps to relax the muscles in the back of your neck. Repeat these stretching exercises a few times, allowing your muscles to relax completely before turning your head again. Drinking plenty of water is also a good way to go at curing headaches, as muscles and ligaments will contract if they’re dehydrated.

Pain medicines like aspirin and acetaminophen ought to also help cure headaches, though it’s typically more effective to cut off the pain at its source: the muscle tension. Commercial massagers can also help in this respect, as can a kind friend. Lowering the amount of stress in your life is a healthy way to cure headaches, as most people will carry tension in their shoulders and necks when under stress. If you can lessen the cause of the muscle tension then you can completely prevent the problem occurring.

Write Right

While we all make mistakes, some can be more damaging than others.

As more and more people decide to try their hand at setting up their own online business it’s only a matter of time before they realise they’ll need to set up their own web page and start providing unique content to get the traffic they need.

Setting up niche sites and writing articles seems to be the most fruitful way to go about driving traffic to your site; unfortunately, no matter how professional your web page looks or how interesting your article may be, if the would be customer comes across too many simple to fix, yet easy to make, errors in your writing they will quickly find the back button.

Most readers/would be customers will forgive a misplaced comma or a run-on sentence in your article or promotion page. Most readers also understand that the internet being what it is, there is always going to be differences in certain spelling and grammatical rules (for instance as an Australian I like the letter ‘U’.) It’s the misused word or phrase and the forgotten capitals that will turn them away before you get the chance to sell them on your idea or affiliate program.

Even with the abundance of writing programs that provide both spelling and grammatical checks it seems that too many people either don’t bother with them or don’t realise that they won’t pick up certain things: homophones (words that sound the same but differ in meaning or spelling or both) being one problem. The spell checker generally won’t pick them up because even though it’s the incorrect word it is spelt correctly.

If you were to come across a web page promoting an item that had something like this:

More then two thousand satisfied customers. (then = time eg. now and then)

Then compared it to a similar promotion that said this:

More than two thousand satisfied customers. (than = compare eg. more than, rather than)

It’s easy to see which one you’re going to take a further look at.

That’s just one example of how the smallest of errors can make a huge difference to whether or not your potential customer will continue read your article or web page.

Listed below are a few simple ideas that will help you to polish off your article or web page to ensure it’s a professional as possible.

Check and double check your work.

Read it out loud. This can often help when it comes to checking if you’ve used the right word or phrase - particularly words like: hear/here, lose/loose, to/too/two, chose/choose, its/it’s etc.

Start at the end then read it word for word backwards, this can help check that you have the correct spelling.

Where possible see if someone else can give it a quick look over for you. Often no matter how many times we read our work we can still miss the most obvious of mistakes; this can be partly due to the fact that we tend to read what we meant to write rather than what is actually on the page.

These are just a few ideas that might help when it comes to getting visitors to stay awhile at your site.

Amsterdam For The Tourist: The Tolerant City

Most people would arrive in Amsterdam via the central train station, either from a train from Schipol airport, other European destinations or one of the many coaches that bring daily visitors from many of the North Sea Ferries.

The first thing you will see on the exit doors of the station will be the now famous Amsterdam trams, boat tours a bit further on and to the right, a cycle park that must contain a half a million bikes. Three things associated with Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is in the process of building an underground train system to make travelling around the city even easier. This does mean that that on main streets and in front of the central station, building is in process, which spoils some of the first impressions at this point, but in a few years time when it is finished I am sure it will be worth it.

Carrying on up the main street from the station you will arrive at the Dam. Many years ago, it used to hold ships that came directly up the canals to trade with the city. But now it is more like a city square with the town hall and Madame Tussaud’s on one side and a the main city statue on the other. In front of the town hall you will often see street entertainers and if you wish to see the city on a horse and cart, this is the starting place for the tours. The dam seems to be a magnet for people during the summer months especially in the early evening. During the winter months an ice rink is built just in front of the town hall.

The dam is also a turning point for tourists, if you turn left you can start exploring the canal system, turn right and you can walk to Anne Frank’s house or if you continue on you will eventually come to the flower market next to the clock tower.

Anne Franks

If I had to select one place to visit whilst in Amsterdam it would be Anne Franks house. Her story has been well documented in her books and the films that have recreated her life’s story during the Second World War. However being in the house, where she and her family hid from the Nazi’s is quite an experience. A lot of the house is the same as it was then, one room still has here writing on the walls and is a grim reminder of the horrors of that time apposed on the Jews. Because the attic room is pretty much as it was, there are steep steps; those in a wheelchair are unlikely to see the entire house.

Flower Market

During certain months of the year this is a colourful spectacle, with what appears every type of tulip and bulb available. The shops are actually boats or floating platforms on the canal, which you can clearly see on the other side of the canal but au you walk the market would just assume they were normal shops.

The Canal System

It doesn’t matter where you walk in Amsterdam you going to be near a canal, but in my opinion you don’t see how pretty the canals are until you have walked 15 minutes or so away from the central station. Here you will have countless opportunities to take photos of small bridges all with cycles chained to them over narrow pretty canals. As well as the canal boat tours at the central station you will come across some more tours boats along the system but beware of the canal bus. You will see bus stops for the canal bus, but you cannot buy a ticket on board you must prepay your ticket at their main depot for the day.

Museums

Most of the art museums are together in the museum quarter. Unless you like walking it is probably a bit far on foot from the station, so a tram may be the order of the day. The canal bus that I mentioned earlier also does a canal bus ticket to take you there via the canals. The Rijksmuseum and Van Gough Museums and others have some of the world’s most famous paintings in from artists such as Monet, Rembrandt and Van Gough who are all Ditch Masters. Try and pre-book your tickets online, as it is hit and miss whether you will get in just by arriving.

You can’t really talk about Amsterdam and not mention some of the other aspects it is famous for and that is its tolerance to sex and low class drugs.

Red Light District

This is the only red light district I have walked through so I can’t compare it to anywhere else except to say it isn’t as sleazy as I thought it would be. You see normal people just going to work, elderly people carrying their shopping, businessmen and women coming in and out of the offices nearby. I am sure this place comes alive at night but during the day, it is more peaceful than I thought it would be. There are tours that will take you and around 30 other visitors around the area and explain the history of the district. In the tours you will see people from all ages including children. The sex shops have everything they sell in the window and seem to be frequented by groups of girls on their hen night having a laugh rather than sleazy men in raincoats. I think only those with extreme views would find this area offensive and if so stay away as it confined to one area of the city and you would not know it was there should you choose not to.

Coffer Shops.

This is where it is legal to buy certain grown substances to be consumed in the area known as a coffee shop. If you want to know where they are, just follow the smell.

It is illegal to buy any drugs on the street though.

I have been to Amsterdam many times now, mainly because of the relaxed atmosphere of the city and its street café culture. In the evening everyone appears to be sitting outside enjoying life and this atmosphere seem to be contagious, not to mention a certain Irish bar where I seem to be able o relax more there than anywhere back at home. It is a city with much to offer that is maybe not as pretty as some cities say in Italy, but more than makes up for it with its diversity of culture and beliefs.

Marketing - The Affiliate Marketers Survival Kit

The Affiliate Marketers Survival Kit contains a balanced collection of tools. Low ticket items, mid-range ticket items and high ticket items.

Typically these high ticket items will be in excess of $970.

A noteworthy part of the survival kit is ongoing research for better earning products. A developing trend is for affiliate marketers to seek out such products at events put on by the likes of Commission Junction which runs CJU gatherings for affiliate marketers and retailers to work out specific marketing deals.

In addition there are three tactics that stand out from the rest to ensure the affiliate marketer not only survives but thrives. And some of them excel. Rosalind Gardiner earns more than $300,000 a year selling the products of others.

Here are the three tactics

1. Dedicated Web Page

All successful affiliate marketers strive to have custom built dedicated web pages. In other words their only purpose is to attract visitors who are assumed to be seeking information.

Good marketers know that visitors will flee a site that is not content rich on the subject of interest. The object is to get the visitor to come back for repeat visits and as they get comfortable with all the information they get motivated to click from an article page to a merchant product page.

2. Valuable Without Cost Reports to Your Readers

Affiliate marketers offer their visitors, in addition to lots of quality content, the opportunity to get a free e-course targeted to their interests. This gets them on an aweber autoresponder mailing list for up to seven weeks.

This way there is a strong client affiliate relationship developed. This often leads to lifetime customer loyalty on the part of the client who returns often to the site to make purchases.

3. Attract Hungry Traffic that is targeted to your product.

Affiliate marketers want traffic to their web site that is targeted as possible. That way they can have a solid ongoing Internet business with client groups as small as 200.

Other tactics, other than article writing, to attract the desired visitor traffic include investing in Google Adwords campaigns. Here the marketer bids on Google keywords and places small adds on their search pages to encourage searchers to visit their sites.

You can use these tips to launch your affiliate marketing online business. Be warned that this is not a get rich quick activity . Despite what you hear and read.

Get into affiliate marketing for the long haul and watch and adapt to the trends.

Then success will belong to you.

Self-Organisation for Inner Balance

Anthony Trollope, the Victorian novelist, was a highly self organized person. He worked for 33 years as a post-office clerk and had only a small part of his spare time at his disposal for writing. Trollope was lucky: he did not have to wait for the Muse. He rose at 5:30 every morning and wrote for 2.5 hours, producing an average of 250 words every quarter hour. Once in his life he carried his self-organisation to extremes: Soon after marrying in 1844, he began to speculate about the health of his wife and, allegedly, wrote to another Irish lady of his acquaintance: “Should anything happen to her, will you supply her place - as soon as a proper period of decent mourning is over?” Eventually, his wife outlived him.

Does a so-called amateur author take himself generally seriously as an author? Only the one does, who perceives his writing as a duty towards himself. To write something now and again, to let the novel lay ten years unfinished in the drawer, signifies the nonexistence of genuine regard for the own writing, but the writing is considered as a leisure employment. To be a writer, is a vocation!

A great privilege and at the same time a great curse for the writer is the fact that he must take the time for his work from himself and from others. It is a privilege, because he can close the door behind himself for a couple of hours; he may avoid thus the everyday worries and troubles. It is a curse though, because it is a sacrifice too. On the face of it, the writer is an egoist and an eccentric. He switches off the phone, for a couple of hours he is like out of the world, he is deaf to the pleadings of his neighbours. How much self-respect and self-belief must a writer possess to be able to maintain such a life rhythm for years?! He simply has to, because it could not be accomplished in another way.

The work done for the day, one has the feeling of having used well his time, not having lived a day to no avail. The money is not earned yet with the just written words, but the inner balance is restored. One is alive again to others, with a better feeling. Budget your time, set a schedule! Every person has his working hours, a writer has them too. Create free spaces for creative exchange of ideas with others, deliberately. Set certain hours for these important meetings or phone calls of exchange. You will be better prepared for them and you will be easy in your mind, because you will know, this one hour is scheduled for it and well invested in it. If you must call up publishing companies, offices or authorities, it is important to consider, to prepare, to take a minute and make a few notes before the call. This is not really creative, but it provides self-assurance and peace of mind.

If you believe in your vocation, the others will come to believe in it as well!

Hurricanes and Coaching

Filed under: Coaching, Self-Improvement — Lance Winslow @ 3:11 pm

Do you coach a sports team and are you concerned with the weather issues? I know that many people in the Northeastern Parts of the United States are and they are very worried about getting in all the practices with the fields flooded, forced evacuations and they know they need playing time and lots of practice to insure organizational management and team work is efficient and running smoothly.

Hurricane Season can be a coaching nightmare for many teams and their opponents may not have the same issues in the higher level of sports thus giving the fair weather teams a much superior advantage.

Even if you are unable to practice all the time it still makes for a strong team to get together and strategize and talk about the game, watch films of the opponents and previous games to build a team effort. Even if you cannot actually play you must get all the minds of all the players on the same wave length and thinking as one unit.

The only sure fire way to due this in the midst of bad weather and flooded fields is to all meet together somewhere and build up the camaraderie together. Studies show that teams which got together and did not practice were 6 times more likely to win more games than those teams which did not get together due to bad weather or cancelled practices. So consider all this in 2006.

Seeing Things From Different Perspectives

Filed under: Arts-and-Entertainment, Humanities — Anu Singh @ 2:07 pm

Perceptual filters and flexibility

’Perceptual filter’ is the label that is used to describe how we see the world. How we see the world is colored by our past experiences. We each have our own personal model of the world, which will have blind spots caused by these perceptual filters. It often pays to look at a situation from a different point of view or wider perspective in order to obtain greater understanding of what is going on.

Considering life from different perspective is clearly important for creativity and innovation. Exploring a problem or opportunity from a number of different perceptual positions enables us to move beyond our customary habits and perceptions, bringing wisdom to our interactions with others.

Perceptual Positions

These are the stances from which we think about a set of circumstances or a particular situation. The basic perceptual positions in communication relationships are:

1: ‘First position’ or ‘Self’- I

Being in your own skin, looking at the world through your own eyes, having you

point of view based on your own beliefs, assumptions and past experiences.

2: ‘Second position’ or ‘Other’ – You

Being in the ‘shoes’ of the other person, looking at the world through his/her eyes

having his/her point of view based on his/her beliefs and assumptions as if you had

experienced his/her life

3: ‘Third position’ or ‘Observer’ – They

Being a detached observer of the relationship between you and the other person – like a fly on the wall, detached from the feeling of those involved in the situation.

4: ‘Fourth position’ or ‘Thinking vision of the system’ – We

Being part of a larger system, taking on the perspective of the whole system – ie department, organization or larger community.
