Skilled Migrants May Face Tougher Visa Tests

OVERSEAS students seeking to remain in Australia as permanent residents may face strict new visa conditions as part of a government rethink of the skilled migration program.

A discussion paper being circulated by Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone flags the likely imposition of a higher English language requirement for skilled migrants to ensure they do better in the Australian job market.

It also points to the likely creation of a temporary visa category targeting overseas students studying in Australia to make sure they get skilled work experience locally before they become eligible to migrate.

The Immigration Department has appointed an outside panel of labour market experts from Monash, La Trobe and Flinders universities to assess the performance of skilled migrants in the workforce.

The evaluation of the General Skilled Migration program will focus on areas where large numbers of recent graduates with permanent resident status have flooded job markets already in oversupply.

The report will be handed to Senator Vanstone early next month for presentation to cabinet.

Changes to the skilled migration program are expected to be introduced in May.

One of the report’s authors, Monash University’s Bob Birrell, said that although the evaluation looked at the entire skilled migration program, it focused on onshore visas granted to students.

‘There are problems, particularly with the overseas student group, because they are the most rapidly growing group,’ Dr Birrell said.

‘The enrolment of overseas students has been mainly driven by the potential for permanent resident outcomes. So we are looking at how they are doing in the Australian labour market, and I think it’s fair to say that there are some problems.’

Foreign Language Learning: 5 More Practical Language Learning Tips

In my previous article we discussed the basics of learning foreign languages. To supplement your experience we will go over 5 more practical language learning tips that you can apply easily in your daily life. These tips are to assist you in your already existing foreign language learning studies.

1. CARRY A DICTIONARY: I know that sounds hard to do. I?m not talking about carrying Webster?s collegiate dictionary that would require its own backpack. You can find miniature dictionaries that can easily fit in your pocket or purse. Although it will never be convenient this is how I learned to speak French fluently. While I was in France anytime anyone said anything I didn?t understand I could instantly look it up, and then use it in my vocabulary. Also, anytime there was a French word I wanted to say I could instantly look it up. This is so important because there are so many times when you are out and you want to know how to say something but are unable to. Then by the time you get home and can look it up you have either forgotten the word or forgotten altogether and you have missed out on a great opportunity to you improve your language skills.

* One alternative that is also effective is to carry a pocket notebook where you can keep a running list of words you?ve learned or want to learn.

2. WATCH MOVIES: The great thing about English movies is that everyone wants them so that means they all get dubbed into a couple of languages. This may only work for French, German, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, or Japanese but is still a great tool. Turn on the dubbing for the language your want to learn and enjoy your movie. Don?t turn on the subtitles even if you don?t understand because you will start to focus only on the subtitles and not gain anything from the experience. Subtitles can be a good tool for learners who are already advanced and want to learn the exact idiomatic meanings of sayings. This is also a great tool to increase your listening comprehension. Start a small segment of the movie. Listen carefully and then replay it over and over until you understand every word. Secondly, mimic the voices exactly in each segment. This will allow you to learn proper pronunciation and accent.

3. READ THE NEWSPAPER: There are several ways to get Newspapers, Magazines, and Comics in foreign languages. I mention these forms of print media because they are the most conversational. They will teach you to speak and write like a native does in their natural state, not when they are trying to speak in dramatic or intellectual terms. You can find these materials at libraries, online, or for languages like Spanish and Chinese often times at your local newsstand. Most of them are free. I prefer the online sources because they are always free and easy to get. You can find links to Newspapers in foreign languages here: http://www.letutor.com/resources . Comic books are great because they are the most conversational print material. You can see the people in action and connect with what they are talking about.

4. WRITE LETTERS: Even if the letter is pretend write a letter about your day. This will force you to learn new words and to think in the language. Although you WILL make mistakes, don?t worry, it is all apart of the process. I look back at some of the things that I wrote when I was starting and wonder what I was thinking. Even though the writings are reminiscent of the ramblings of a crazy man it helped me to refine my abilities. I can see the progress in my writings month by month they improve significantly. Don?t forget to pay attention to your Conjugations.

5. THINK THE LANGUAGE: Think as much as possible in the language. When you are thinking at anytime during the day do it as much as possible in the foreign language you are learning. Fill in the blanks with your native language but just keep thinking in the language. This is HUGELY important. One of the biggest problems when learning to speak a foreign language is HABIT. If you are not used to thinking in the language how will you speak. This will prepare you to be comfortable and confident when confronted with the opportunity to speak the language. If you make this a habit it eventually becomes natural and extemporaneous.

Year Round Decorating Ideas For The Front Door

The front door of your home is the first thing that visitors will see. You can make a good impression on your guests and visitors by adding some special decorative touches to this area. These decor accents do not have to be elaborate or expensive. Many times just one or two specially selected pieces will go a long way. By decorating the front doorway area you can lend a nice touch to your home, and make your guests feel especially welcomed. Here are some ideas for making the most of your decorating area with ideas to give special pizzaz to your front door.

Hang door garland. This can be in any theme and will cover a large amount of space on the front door. Make sure you choose something that will be relatively weather resistant, and will not fade easily. A garland of fall colored leaves would make a wonderful autumn design. For Christmas, holly or poinsettias could be used to make a similar garland.

Display a large wreath or other floral display with the use of an over-the-door wreath hanger. Try making your own wreath out of natural materials like pine cones. This can be easily accomplished by using a glue gun and adding some decorative floral picks. I usually make my own Christmas wreath by using a pre-made wreath shape, and adding Christmas floral picks or handmade bows. I purchase these inexpensively from the Dollar Store.

Add a door knob hanger. This could be as elaborate as a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece, or as simple as a colored ribbon with bells attached. For seasonal themes, a strand of dried corn or even small fall leaves would make a nice hanger. Snowman and poinsettias would be fun ideas for Christmas or Winter.

Seasonal door decorations are a fun way to decorate the front door. For autumn you could use a fall themed wreath with apples, fall leaves, even tiny pumpkins. Thanksgiving ideas include the cornucopia or dried corn. For the past couple of years, I have used a heavy wrapping paper to ?wrap? my front door to look like a present. I usually use a bright red foil paper, then add a handmade wreath.

What an X-Box 360 Can Teach the Rest of Us About Marketing

Filed under: Business, Marketing — Jeremy Tuber @ 8:15 pm

My friend Craig bought an X-Box 360 last month. For those not familiar with what an X-Box is, it?s a video game console. Most of us old enough to remember, would compare it to a suped-up Atari. Well, if Atari were a Pinto, the X-Box 360 would be the Porsche. But this article isn?t about mind-numbing video games, in fact, if you?re a business owner looking for a competitive edge, you going to want to read this. You?re about to be educated by a video game console.

Video games have come a long way, in fact light years since I played them back in the 70?s and 80?s, and so has the amount of aggressive, intuitive marketing behind this multi-billion dollar industry.

Sure the graphics and the action has gotten better with these little arcades in a box, but what the video game companies have done in terms of marketing is unbelievably impressive. In fact, everything about this X-Box 360 is about marketing to kids. Take for example when you open the box, you receive offers for video game magazines, free video game demos, online music clubs and any other thing you can imagine a kid would be interested in. In exchange for discounts on products/services, the marketing companies ask the buyers to provide them with some information, this information will be used to help market other targeted products and services to the kids. Instead of throwing money into billboard hoping that by some random chance a buyer that has the money, and is looking to buy at that time ? these guys are targeting what are called ?warm leads? who are very likely to be in the market for their products and services. Pretty smart, huh?

But the marketing doesn?t stop there; the video game console?s set up is down right ingenious. Gone are the days where you just plunked a game cartridge in the Atari and just started playing. The X-Box 360 has a complete, extensive dashboard console, which allows kids to try and buy games on line with just a couple of button presses.

Think about this for a second! How many customers could you attract if by just pressing a couple of buttons on a remote control could order your products and services? Have you ever noticed that marketers are always talking about how fast, easy and convenient it is to buy and work with them? This isn?t by accident ? smart businesses know that the harder it is to buy and work with them, the less sales they?ll have (* I know there are exceptions).

Are you still not convinced? Check out the full array of what the X-Box 360 allows it?s customers to do, think about this in terms of your business ? how can your business capitalize on these ideas:

*
Preview new games coming soon to stores. Yes, the video game industry now has movie trailers for video games.

*
Spend credits to buy games instead of cash, or credit card. The parents can of course purchase credits, almost like an allowance for kids. The kids can then buy virtually whatever they want, whenever they want it.

*
Download and try demo versions of newly released games. Of course the user can quickly purchase the rights to the full-version game with a couple of button presses.

*
Listen to and download featured, hot up and coming music artists. This is cross promotion with other industries the customers are most likely to be interested in as well.

* Join chat rooms and special interests groups that focus on video games. It?s like an online community that buzzes the latest and greatest video games. Customers

* Download vintage video games at a fraction of the price. For those of us old enough to remember Atari, you can download all of your favorites: Frogger, Pac Man, Joust and more. The cost for the games is about $5. This is an impulse buy for people that can be done in a matter of 2-3 button presses. Imagine if just 50,000 people purchase just one game, that?s $250,000 of revenue for a video game back in the 80?s!!!

Bottom Line for Sharp Business Owners:

Video games may still be an unproductive way to waste a Saturday, but the marketing behind these brain cell killers has gone high-tech, and could teach us all something. These are really marketing cash machines in a cleverly packaged box. From permission/infusion marketing to cross promotion, targeting warm leads and the ease at which customers can buy products ? the video game industry has marketing figured out.

In your own business, how can you capitalize on what you?ve read here?

* How can you make it easier to buy from your company?

*
Are there warm leads out there that would be more effective to target than people off the street? How can you target these people?

*
How could you take advantage of permission marketing by providing customers value in exchange for providing you with valuable information and permission to market to them?

*
What products/services could you cross promote that your customers would probably be interested in? What businesses could you form a strategic alliance with in order to provide more and better products/services to your mutual customers?

Child Safety At Halloween - Which Colors Are Safe To Wear?

As we all know, Halloween is filled with outdoor activity. Young children are walking from door to door hollering ?Trick-Or-Treat?. In gated communities, this is a safer practice, since sidewalks and lighted streets are quite common. However, if you live out in a more country-like setting, sidewalks are rare and streetlights few and far between.

So, if you decide to take your child trick-or-treating this Halloween where sidewalks are non-existent and streetlights are only found at the corner, make sure to dress them in colors appropriate for the dusk hours.

White ? This is the safest color when going out in the evening hours. When headlights hit the bright white of a t-shirt or pair of shorts, the drivers will have no doubt there is someone walking alongside the road. Whole costumes of white are best: a Ghost, a Bride in a Wedding Dress, or a Ballerina in a White Tutu are just some ideas.

Yellow ? Bright yellows are similar to white, as they show up well when hit by headlights. Dull yellows are not as effective. There are some costumes that are predominantly yellow: A Sun costume, Sponge Bob Squarepants, Belle and a Bumblebee with thin black stripes are examples.

Light blues, pinks and oranges ? Once you move away from white, any of the ?baby? colors, like powder blue, are okay for dusk hours. Many costumes fall into these color categories: The Disney Princesses Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty have dresses in these colors and Blue from Blue?s Clues is a light hue of blue.

Everyone knows there will be Halloween nights where our kids don?t choose their costume based on its color, though. Batman with his black costume and cape, black cats and witches, and even Superman in his dark blue and red will be hard to see once the skies begin to darken. Be sure when you have a year like that to use reflective tape on several areas of your child?s costume as well as their trick-or-treat bag. This will keep them safe, and that will lead to them having fun!

Free Tips To Help Beat Depression

Filed under: Depression, Health-and-Fitness — Steve Hill @ 6:24 pm

In this article I aim to give free advice to help people who are depressed. I am sure that most of us become quite low and short of self-confidence from time to time, I know that I do, the advice I am going to write about comes from my own personal experiences. I hope it is of benefit to some of the people who read the article.

It might sound strange but one of the best forms of stress relief and ways out of depression that I find helps me, is sleep. If I have had a restless night for whatever reason, such as my dog continually barking throughout the night or one of my children keeps waking up with nightmares, I always seem
to find that I am feeling quite low and down on the next day. It is as if my brain is unable to think in a positive way and that the lack of sleep has affected some kind of chemical balance. I then start to worry about the smallest of things and about aspects of my life that may or may not happen in the future. This then affects my work and social life as I am basically feeling drained and not up for it, some would say that I am feeling quite lethargic.

This is an example of what happens to most people from time to time but has in a way taught me a lesson about how I should react when I am depressed. What I basically attempt to do is to sleep my way out of the depression. Some of my friends think that I am a bit mad but my family now understand that it is not that I am just being lazy but that I am trying to make myself feel better. I might say to my wife in the afternoon that I am going upstairs for a sleep, she of course knows me very well and will no doubt have noticed throughout the day that I am not my normal self. She then realises the reason why I am going for this short nap.

This may not of course work for everyone but when I wake back up I always feel a whole lot better and able to think more pro-actively about things.

Exercise also helps me to beat the depression. I am not exactly one for exercising but find that when I am working out at the gym for example, that this helps to to take my mind off all of the things that I am depressed about. After the work out I feel a form of rush that I have done something good. It is as if my brain and body are rewarding me for my efforts.

Lastly I also like to take my family on short weekend breaks, especially when I am feeling depressed. Just to get away from the big city where I live and to explore a new environment is always a good way for me to unwind and again helps my mind to focus on other things, such as my family and showing them a good time.

Is Adsense Yesterday’s Income Stream?

Well you would not be reading this if you have not heard of the google publishing program. If it is an entirely recent discovery, I suggest you take a trip over to their site whatever country you live in and read about it. It has been claimed as the easiest money to earn ever.

With no customers to look after, an awful lot of hassle is taken out of your daily efforts to attract revenue online. Its very simple in theory like all the best successful commercial ideas tend to be. Ok, so what about in practice then?

You open an account when you have a website with a good minimum of 15 pages or so. You can get bits of website html with a unique id code attached. When you place this on webpages, ads are displayed which if clicked, will attract some money to your publisher account.

Of course you must do this placing of code on sites which people are going to be interested in. Some research is necessary, you can’t use an any old way approach to this. Now you might ask yourself ‘ I wonder if some areas of interest are more popular and pay more ? Yes there is some difference.

That is because advertisers are paying Google via the advertisers program and a part of this revenue is being shared with you. So if you have a website on a popular subject being searched daily then that also means there are going to be more advertisers trying to outbid each other. Each click on your site means a potentially higher payout.

However that also means people will take the path of least resistance and compete on popular subjects which makes it more difficult for you to get website traffic from the search engines. No visitors means no publisher revenue.

Google also give advertisers an option to let their ads appear after a search is done or appear on content sites as well. You could not always be sure though if any of these sites were providing customers so advertisers displayed their wares through your website ad code on your pages.

Well enough time passed and most found that paying to display on your content site did not always pay out - in fact results could be very poor. Google got plenty of earache and eventually decided to see what could be done by delisting websites !

Have you been affected or know anyone else who has suffered a sharp fall in publisher earnings? Its a question not just of search engine optimization but unique content. a few marketers made cash offering software that could generate hundreds of pages at a touch of a button. If you used this wisely that might not have been a problem but of course there was a gold rush on !

So many garbage sites came as a result with little content and the ads displayed on them could never hope to get good quality visitors so sales ratio results had to be disappointing. A shake out has been happening and the website publisher now needs to produce a better information source. The next discussions will be all about whether its worth a sustained effort to produce a quality site or if the whole concept is now not worth the return. You need to hear both sides of the argument.

Can you still earn with adsense ? Find out with this free report at

Lower Your Total Cost of Ownership with Virtual Office VoIP while Adding Flexibility

Filed under: Communications, VOIP — Joseph Brochin @ 4:48 pm

Virtual Office Voice over IP (VoIP) hosted PBX service, is a small business phone system alternative that allows small business to medium-sized businesses (SMB) anywhere in the world to employ an unlimited number of extension options and enjoy geographic independence and flexibility. Depending on the provider, the plans can include unlimited extensions, metered extensions or virtual extensions. Some providers can offer feature-rich telephone and options that can include a unique direct inbound dial (DID) telephone number for every extension for staff located in the same building or spread around the world.

Virtual Office Voice over IP (VoIP) hosted PBX service lowers most small business total cost of ownership (TCO) for phone services.
Virtual Office Voice over IP (VoIP) hosted PBX service cuts the typical private branch exchange (PBX) system start up costs up to 90% through the delivery of a virtual PBX while reducing monthly phone bills by as much as 50% if not more.

Virtual Office Voice over IP (VoIP) hosted PBX services are designed with simple self-service tools for complete system and extension control. There is one very impressive Virtual Office Voice over IP (VoIP) hosted PBX service that I am impressed with. This provider’s Virtual Office Voice over IP (VoIP) hosted PBX service provides Unlimited Calling, Auto-Attendant, Full Featured Conference Bridge, and Business-class Voicemail. The most impresssive of all the features of this particular Virtual Office Voice over IP (VoIP) hosted PBX service are the following:

Administrative Controls:
- This particular Virtual Office Voice over IP (VoIP) hosted PBX service includes an administration web portal for all PBX, auto-attendant, ring groups and complete extension control

Other settings in Extension Manager including forwarding rules, one number access, caller ID blocking, call waiting disable and other unique settings.

- Switchboard is a great live answer application that runs on a PC and works in conjunction with the Virtual Office phone to assist operators and secretaries in seeing extension status indicators and provide quick and accurate call answering and distribution controls.

Virtual Attendant:
This particular Virtual Office Voice over IP (VoIP) hosted PBX service with Virtual Attendant is a powerful, automated call routing solution that allows businesses to connect wired, mobile, home phones and other Virtual Office extensions, regardless of geographic location, under a single primary phone number. Virtual Attendant can be used as either an independent service or in conjunction with an accompanying Virtual Office Service Plan.

This Virtual Office Voice over IP (VoIP) hosted PBX service provides more features than I can list in this article. This though should be enough to get you started on the road to PBX solutions If you would like more information about Virtual Office Voice over IP (VoIP) hosted PBX service please contact me.

Hair Re growth Naturally?Re-discovered Folk Remedy Revealed

While on a business trip to Northern Greece (near the Albanian border) I had some free time for some hiking in the foothills surrounding the ancient city of Ioanina. I came to a small village with a population of no more than 100 people, most of them old as their children had moved to the big cities.

As is my habit I often have a coffee with local people and strike up conversations about their place and its history.

While in the only coffee shop I saw an old grandmother sitting in her front yard boiling some brew with a distinctive and unforgettable odor. It smelled of the forest and reminded me of the smell of the earth after a good rain.

I asked what she was making, if it was some food, or concoction.

The men in the coffee shop told me to ask her, and I did. Her name of Grandmother Irina, and she told me she was making her elixir to re-grow lost hair.

I sort of laughed, until an hour later a small lorry pulled up and a man got out and paid a large sum of money for what she was brewing, and took it away in an oil drum.

After much coaxing, I got her to tell me what was in it, although she did not say the proportions, as they were ?secret?. However, after about an hour with her, and our pleasant conversation progressed, she told me all about her folk remedy, which I pass on to you now.

Since Grandmother Irina had no children (in Greece, the term Grandmother is respectfully given to any aged woman), she had no one to pass her secret on to, and she was glad to give it to me.

She hoped it would become well know, and help people who have lost their hair, re-grow it without medicines.

She said the recipe well as old as Greece itself, and she did not wish to die when she did.

Grandmother Irina?s Elixir

Taking 2 liters of rainwater (you will find a way to collect it), you boil 20 berries from the bitter laurel tree, along with 10 small cones from the Cyprus tree, for 12 hours under very low heat.

The mixture will become very dark, almost black.

When cooled and the solid particles streained out about one liter of liquid that remains.

In a frying pan, fry 9 very fresh eggs in a large quantity of sesame oil till the eggs are hard fried. Let the mixture cool, and throw away the eggs. The oil is part of the treatment.

Re-Grow Lost Hair Treatment

After a daily morning shower or bath, and a good shampoo of what hair remains on your head, apply the herbal liquid to the scalp, and let it dry. When dry, apply some of the sesame oil (small amount) to the same area. Leave it in place.

After 3 weeks you will notice hair growth.

The longer you apply the treatment, the better the result. This must be a daily event, and not discontinued once hair is in place.

The hair may be very fine, and of a black color, but nevertheless, it is hair, and if that is what you wish, you will have it?without medicines or transplant surgery.

This article is dedicated to the memory of Grandmother Irina, and we hope you shall pass on this wonderful folk remedy to anyone who needs to know about it.

F.E.A.R. False Evidence Appearing Real

There is an old saying that says, ?You Have Nothing to Fear Except Fear Itself!? How true is that?

Everyone has fears. What do you fear? Some people have a fear of the dark, some fear heights, some fear closed in spaces ? What is it that you fear?

Did you know there are those that fear Success? That?s right there are people that are afraid of succeeding at something! There are people that spend their whole lives failing because they are afraid of succeeding at something. So guess what - they spend their whole lives failing because they feel success carries to big a price tag. So they never really dig in and try to succeed!

What I want to do right now is give you a definition of F.E.A.R. that I heard some years ago. I can?t remember where I got this now but it is the best definition I?ve ever heard. Are you ready? Here it is:

False

Evidence

Appearing

Real

Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real! Fear will rear its ugly face and make you believe what is unbelievable. Fear can appear and make you see a false Reality, but Fear is never a Reality! That is why it spells out ? False Evidence Appearing Real!

Let me ask those of you that Fear the darkness ? What is in the dark that isn?t there in the light? The answer is nothing! We can imagine all sorts of things but where are those things when the light goes on?

When I was a little boy my mommy would come into my room and tuck me in than turn out the light (bedtime), after she left the room I would start screaming ? ?mommy, mommy, mommy help me mommy snakes in my bed?. My mommy would come in and turn on the light and the snakes would disappear. Where did they go? My mommy would search under the bed, in the closet, dresser draws, etc. NO SNAKES! Were the snakes ever in reality there? F.E.A.R.!

Isn?t this the way we all do when it comes to success? We (myself included) can find all the reasons why it won?t work! We drupe around in the darkness never thinking to just turn the light on so we can see the actual Reality of the thing. Don?t believe the False Evidence Appearing (the friend who says you can?t make no money doing that ? get a job or this is a scheme, scam, etc.). The Reality is you are in Business treat your business like any business! Show up for work on time, learn what you need to do for your business to succeed and do what is required to succeed and you will.

There are 3 things that are REAL: Death (Hank Williams sang a song, ?you ain?t getting? out of this world a live), Taxes (Uncle Sam will get his share) and a Higher Power ? Now that is Reality!

There is another Reality straight from the month of my mother ? ?Can?t Never Did Do Nothin?!? The word Can?t comes from F.E.A.R.! My mother also told me, ?Son, You Can Do Anything If You Want To Do It Bad Enough. It just depends how bad you WANT it!? I?m asking you, ?How Bad Do You Want To Succeed??

Don?t let Fear cloud your judgment. There is all kinds of false evidence with an appearance of reality, but if you will turn the light on then you can see that what appears to be in the darkness is just an imagination run wild. Turn On the Light and See what is really there ? REALITY!

There is no reason in the world why you can not do for yourself what you do for your Employer on the job. The biggest difference between the J.O.B. and your Home-Based Business is you are calling the shots ? Not your Employer! The other difference is your Employer hands you that paycheck at the end of the week ? Guaranteed pay!

Think of this for a second ? What if all of a sudden your Employer comes to you and says, ?Your production has been down lately.?
