Finding Valuable Cancer Information

Filed under: Cancer — Morgan Hamilton @ 2:55 pm

Cancer, as everything else, has been largely discussed on the Internet. There are many sites dedicated to cancer diseases, to people suffering from cancers, to their friends and families. The Internet is a good source of valuable cancer information, but there is more to it than that. It is a means to integrate the suffering into a network of virtual friends and supporters, which doesn?t let them feel isolated and alone.

The Internet helps friends and families of deceased people to realize that they are not alone with their pain, and that many people are going through the same terrible plot. One of the best traits of cancer information sites is that they unite people and help them overcome their grief.

There are a variety of forums and online discussions meant to bring people together. Cancer is a topic of great interest for many people. Anyone can read and respond to, there are options for instant messages with fellow cancer patients, cancer survivors, and cancer supporters.

One useful site for friends and family members of ill patients is Cancer and Careers.com?s ?What You Can Do as a Friend?. It props you up with information about what your behavior in front of the ill friend should be. You shouldn?t talk about certain things, neither be too optimistic, nor be too negative in your expectations.

Your main duty as a friend should be supportive and encouraging. This cancer information is very helpful at the beginning. Another essential book for friends may be Facing Cancer Together: How to Help Your Friend or Loved One by Pamela N. Brown. It can help a lot in guiding your attitude towards your ill friend.

Valuable cancer information can be found at cancernews.com. There is a large list of directories meant to give orientation to people for any local cancer support groups. Most of them can also be found at the Cancer Information Network. There are many organizations supporting cancer hotlines? one of them is The National Cancer Institute, their site being reached at cancer.gov, others are Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization (Their site is: y-me.org/hotline), the RA Bloch Cancer Foundation Cancer Hotline (1-800-433-0464), and the Lung Cancer Alliance Toll-free Hotline (1-800-298-2436).

There are also a lot of specific information sites about different types of cancers: see Mesothelioma-net ( a site, designed to offer cancer information on the specific types of mesothelioma, its treatment, and coping strategies and so on). Another site which presents you a list of all cancers is The Cancer Information Network (at cancerlinksusa.com); and, of course, The American Cancer Society (cancer.org). The latter one gives you information on everything from prevention and early detection strategies, as well as treatment and cancer information by type. There are great statistics and investigations included, which offer you information from the past 100 years.

You’ll find a variety of stores to be host to a vast selection of awareness jewelry. Some of the most popular items in the collection are those designed to increase breast cancer awareness. Items like bracelets, necklaces, cookies, lollipops are now available to show support. A Breast Cancer Awareness Pin is an excellent example. A sophisticated and elegant lapel pin featuring dozens of beautiful pink Swarovski crystals, the purchase of this item is an excellent way to show your support.

The Breast Cancer Loop is another very popular piece of awareness jewelry. The great thing about this product is its versatility. It can be used as a purse or briefcase charm as well as an ornament for the car, diaper bag or even Christmas tree. Featuring handsome pink and clear Swarovski crystals and a Bali silver awareness ribbon, this tiny bracelet is as practical as it is beautiful.

You will still find, however, the Breast Cancer Awareness Bracelet to be the most popular. Featuring sterling silver, pink Swarovski crystals and delicate pearls, bracelets are ideal for the individual who wants to keep the cause close to her heart. Many bracelets include ribbon charms in silver, pink or crystals.

So, whether you are wearing a bracelet to show your support this year or sending of some delicious snacks or treats to a family, friend or loved one, be sure to think pink and help spread the word.

My Earth Angel Friend - Sherin - Surviving Terminal Lymphoma Cancer Story: The Lord Still Heals

Filed under: Cancer, Leukemia-Lymphoma-Cancer — Russ Miles @ 12:05 pm

The following ‘Medical Miracle Story’ ezine article fits nicely into the ‘Rascal’s Free Reprint Articles‘ section of my website Jesus4You.ws where it is an RSS Feed from my favorite article bank, EzineArticles.com.

For the telling my Earth Angel Sherin Story, I am going to use a complete e-mail that I sent to one of my down-line business partners, Marion, who assists me and my other new sign-up partners in two of our common Internet businesses.

Hi, My Ravishing Rascalette :)

We’ve got to get busy getting you into that red Ferrari, beautiful. I need to stay on tract once all of our elements are in place…LOL They’re coming together ~ thanks to my Marvelous Maid Marion and OUR Savior who made this ‘Match Made In Heaven’ a reality.

About the MySpace site: I like and want the VERY SAME background set-up as yours. I love the ‘Tropics’ which it reflects :) I love you too, My Wonderful, Helpful Maid. If you can put the Kris Kristofferson video onto my MySpace profile (as you have on my AWESOME Direct Matches Business Profile that you created for me also), that would be a bonus!

I’ve just received a call from one of my former agents and former sister-in-law, Sherin. She will be coming by here in Vancouver, WA within the next couple of days and I’m sure that she will be signing up for GDI (Global Domains International). I’ll place her under you, Cutie. You’ll be helping Sher to set up her website. LOL. You’ll love her, as I do you, ‘My Georgia Peach.’

Probably, Sher will be signing up for DM (Direct Matches) also. She is a smart businesswoman and will recognize how valuable DM is when I let her see it via one of the banners waving at visitors to my website. LOL

Sher was diagnosed with ‘Terminal Lymphoma ‘ and the Docs said that she would not make it. LOL That was about 17-20 years ago. With her sister ~ my then wife Vicki ~, I came over here to Vancouver to visit her obviously dying Sis’. Vick and I lived in Portland with our three children who were all school-age at the time. Cassie, our youngest daughter that we had together, had not yet arrived on this planet.

Anyway, Sherin was in her recliner ~ as she had been for a couple of weeks ~ unable to make it up the stairs to her condo’s bedroom. I’d no sooner come in the door ~ that she had told my wife would be unlocked for us ~ than Sher asked me, ‘Honey, what would you do if you were me?’

I answered, ‘Sher, I’d get myself onto a plane and fly down to Oral Robert’s City Of Hope Medical Center, in Tulsa Oklahoma, where I’d be surrounded by ‘Spirit Filled’ Dr’s who would agree that I could live.’

Sher said, ‘I’ve been reading here in this King James Bible where it says in James, ‘Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. … What do you think of that?’

Sherin had the Bible open on the little table beside her recliner. She waited while I picked up the sacred book and read the scriptures myself. I was shocked! Not because the Bible said that she could be healed ~ but because my sister-in-law had a Bible. Like my wife, Sher had been raised in an abusive Mormon home. Neither one of them had wanted anything to do with that church or any other one.

To answer her question, I said, ‘That’s what it says, Sher.’

Immediately, she said, ‘I haven’t ever been to a real church. Do you know of a minister that would be willing to come over here and pray for me?’

‘I think that I know of ONE,’ I replied. ‘Payton Hudson! This is Sunday, he may still be at his church… It’s noon… That’s about the time the congregation got out last week ~ when I went alone again. Vicki went to another church last week, because she doesn’t like Payton’s church. She says it too noisy.’

Sher handed me her telephone and asked, ‘Will you try to call him for me?’

I did call, right then, and Payton’s wife answered telling me that the service had just ended. Geri’ said that she’d get her husband to talk with me before they went to lunch. Payton was soon on the telephone and I told him briefly why I had called.

‘Sure, Brother!’ Paton said ~ with confidence.’Let me talk to her.’

I handed the phone back to Sherin. They set up a time for him to bring a couple of ladies from his church with him ~ to pray for my sister-in-law’s healing ~ the coming Tuesday.

I didn’t see Sher for two weeks. When I did come back, she was still sitting in that same recliner. Gray in her color, she looked almost dead.

‘I’ve been Healed,’ Sher told me. ‘That minister, his wife, Geraldine, and another lady named Vickie Adams came over and they ‘Layed hands’ on me. I accepted Jesus as my Savior and my healing. They all three ‘Layed hands’ on me. The next day, I went to see my Dr. ~ the cancer specialist ~ to tell him. He said I can’ be. But I know that I’m healed. Honest!’

Sherin sure didn’t look healed. All I could say was, ‘Great, Sher. I’ll agree with you. You’re healed!’

Then she hit me with the hard one. ‘The doctor said I am too far gone to start chemo’. That it was an unlikely option for anyone with a condition this far advanced ~ even if I had started when he had advised me too ~ anyway. I declined when he wanted me to start it ‘Right away’ about three months ago. Honey, what would you do if you were me?’

‘WOW, Sher!’ I said, my not-long-a-Christian-myself head spinning. ‘Let me think about this a minute… I’ve got to use your can… I’ll be right back…’ I didn’t want to be asked a question like that. Getting up off of the couch ~ I started walking down her hallway toward the bathroom. I was talking frantically to The Lord in my head.

‘WHAT?’ I ask Him, ‘What do I say?’

As clear as could be, Jesus answered me audibly: ‘I walked on water.’

That didn’t make any sense to me. I was frustrated. I almost yelled out loud, ‘I know that! Why are telling me this NOW?’

Jesus answered me again, ever so calmly, yet once more in an audible voice, ‘ Yes son, I walked on water, but usually ~ when I wanted to cross the lake ~ I took a boat…’

Now, I’m not that smart, Marion. Instead of continuing to the toilet, I stopped… I understood… abruptly, I turned around and walked back over to Sherin who had notice my strange movements.

‘Sher,’ I said, ‘Go tell your Doc that you want to start your chemotherapy. OK, so your hair will fall out… I agree with you that you’re healed, but there must be some people at that hospital ~ and your Doctor ~ that need to be shown what Our Lord can do. Maybe, it’s some patients that you need to ‘Witness’ too?’ I don’t remember using Sherin’s bathroom before leaving.

Well, the following day, her mother found Sher in the recliner ~ slipping into and out of consciousness. Her tiny mother picked up her limp, dehydrated, starving daughter’s body and carried her out to her own car. Then, she drove Sher to the hospital ~ where she was informed that she could not make the decision to have them begin Chemotherapy for her adult daughter. Sher returned to consciousness just long enough to authorize Chemo’ ~ after asking three people who she loved ~ that were at her bedside ~ and then went unconscious again.

Chemotherapy was started immediately. They didn’t believe that Sherin would even survive the 1st session. Well, she did! LOL She went on to endure a lot of miserable times ~ and her hair did indeed fall out. When she was totally cancer free ~ Sher’s hair grew back ~ curly :) If you ask Sherin how she survived ‘Incurable’ Cancer, she will tell you that God healed her. ‘Jesus paid for my healing over 2,000 years ago. Yeah, I had to go through some horrible, miserable times ~ but Jesus gave me the strength and even the faith to get through it all.’

The very last time that I talked to my friend, Sher, about it, she said, ‘You know, Honey, I don’t even remember you and Vicki coming over to see me ~ the day before I started Chemo’. I don’t remember very much about that whole last week, even.’

Well, I sure will never forget it. Until very recently, it was the only time that I had ever heard My Lord speak to me in an audible voice. It is incredible how very calm that Jesus sounds when we are in a frenzy.

While wearing a turban, Sherin went back to college. She just decided that she would further her education while she was surviving ‘Terminal cancer.’ At about 40 years of age ~ Sher earned a bachelor’s degree in speech ~ and went on to become a very successful real estate agent.

She has since traveled and cruised all over the world. Last year ~ for a high school ‘Graduation present’ ~ Sher fulfilled her promise to one of her gran-daughters, Jenny, that they would go to Europe after she graduated. LOL

Some years ago ~ after I’d opened my own real estate brokerage ~ Sher obtained her ‘Broker’s License’ too. Rather than open her own brokerage, she became my most productive Associate Broker, and she managed my office for me when I wasn’t there ~ like when I’d intended to open another real estate brokerage in another state.

I returned to WA state from AZ, because Sher’s sister had taken our daughter with her when she, Vicki, informed me that she didn’t like it Arizona, that our daughter hated the new school, and she had left me in AZ. LOL After thinking about it for a few weeks, I decided that my wife and 3rd grade daughter were up in Washington ~ and that must be where The Lord wanted me to be ~ for he time being too.

I drove back to find that my wife already had obtained an apartment for just herself and my daughter. LOL And Vicki informed me that she wanted a divorce. Washington, like most states, has a ‘No-fault’ divorce option which we elected to exercise. I rented my own place ~ visited Cassiopeia on weekends ~ and concentrated on my real estate business.

A few months later, Sherin and I decided that ~ since we were good friends ~ we could share a nice, 2-bedroom apartment here in Vancouver, WA. We resided together until I bought another large house and moved her sister with my youngest daughter in to share it with me. Yes, Sherin was a very good ‘Roomie’ besides being a ‘Great Realtor.’ LOL

During our time living and working together, Sher and I had some good laughs, too. She’s a ‘Crack-up.’ Sher knows no fear. I used many of the delightful characteristics that I found in my former sister-in-law as the basis of a character that I created in my mystery novel ~ FOR SALE BY OWNERS:FSBO ~ which I later wrote and published.

Seeing that I was severely depressed ~ suffering the effects of selling my real estate brokerage because of the debilitating impact of my too-bad-to-deny-any-longer MS (Multiple Sclerosis) ~ Sher had bought me a book on how to write and sell your first novel ~ hoping that I would take the bait and overcome my great depression. LOL It worked, for which I am deeply indebted to my sensitive Earth~Angel friend.

Some of my most fond memories of my times with Sher involve when we went to Europe together ~ on a month-long vacation that we both enjoyed. That was long before I had EVEN admitted that I had MS (Multiple Sclerosis) ~ although many of the mid-stage symptoms were obvious. Probably, it was another six years or so before I was ‘Cured’ of that ‘Incurable Dread disease.’ Sherin is a trouper! I believe ~ with all of my heart ~ that Sher is also an Earth Angel.

When she comes over in the next couple of days, My Maid Marion, I’m going to help Sherin to understand that she is an Earth~Angel and that she needs to get busy with us on doing The Lord’s work while becoming rich via His easy way that He’s shown me for is elect chosen. Please agree with me in prayer, Marion, that Sherin will accept His commission ~ as she accepted His provision to be healed of ‘Terminal Lymphoma.’

Well, my married maiden, this got so long that I will use it in a new ezine article which I plan to submit when I awaken after taking a now needed nap :)

I love you, My Ravishing Earth~Angel Rascalette :)

Reflexology: May the Force Be With Your Fingers

Filed under: Cancer — Liz Langdon @ 10:15 am

Reflexology is a holistic healing technique in which pressure with the thumbs and fingers is applied to ?reflex? zones that have been mapped out on the feet and hands. By applying pressure and stimulating the feet or hands you are increasing circulation and promoting healing in the corresponding part of the body.

Therefore stress and other conditions can be improved in the same way an acupuncturist can break up blockages in chi using acupuncture needles. Yes, I think Reflexology involves more than just a foot massage.

Reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China but it wasn?t until 1913 when Dr. William Fitzgerald introduced the therapy to the West as ?zone therapy? that it became well-known to the western world. He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to areas and organs in the same zone on the body. According to the zone theory the body is divided into ten equal longitudinal zones (five on the left and five on the right) running through the body from the crown of the head to the tips of the toes. The five zones on the left correspond to the left foot; the five on the right side correspond to the right foot.

In the 1930?s Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory. As she worked with Dr. Joe Shelby Riley, an osteopath, she observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot was mirrored in the corresponding part of the body. She plotted these ?reflex? points on a foot map and the practice became known as Reflexology.

The Reflexologist learns the ?reflex buttons? on the hands and feet which connect to all the organs and glands. When stimulated these ?reflex buttons? send out a surge of healing energy, encouraging the corresponding body part to heal itself.

Your feet are extensively connected to your nervous system through the 7200 nerve endings in each foot. These nerves are part of the sympathetic nervous system that senses pain and pressure, hot and cold, wet and dry, etc. and that lead to the ?fight or flight? response.

Proper stimulation of these nerves can induce the ?relaxation response.? This will produce a cascading effect, reducing stress throughout the entire nervous system. Your body as a whole will relax and begin to repair the damage caused by excess stress.

Studies have shown Reflexology to be a natural therapeutic approach to health and healing and consider it safe and effective. Reflexology can be performed anywhere, requires no special equipment, is noninvasive and is an avenue for the healing power of human touch. It is inexpensive, low-risk, flexible, and easily applied.

Several studies have shown Reflexology to be effective in pain relief. The physiological response to pain can create harmful effects that prolong the body?s recovery after illness or surgery. Patients often report mild to moderate pain even after pain medication has been given.

In patients hospitalized with cancer, all had significant and immediate relief from pain and nausea after a ten minute foot massage. Patients also felt more relaxed and less anxious.

Subjects in another group showed decreases in sympathetic responses to pain (e.g., decreased heart rate and respiratory rate) during a Reflexology session. However there were no changes in the blood pressure of the patients, seeming to show the method was basically safe.

Other studies have shown Reflexology to be effective for:

  • Back Pain
  • Migraine
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Infertility
  • Arthritis
  • Sleep Disorders
  • Hormonal Imbalances
  • Premenstrual Syndrome
  • Sports Injuries
  • Digestive Disorders, and
  • Stress-related Conditions

Reflexology will work for anyone and everyone. You don?t have to believe it will work for it to have a positive outcome for you. The key is relaxation. The more fully you allow yourself to relax during the session, the better your outcome will be.

Chlorine - A Possible Cause of Cancer?

Halina Szejnwlad Brown, Donna Bishop and Carol Rowan contrast their estimates of skin
absorption versus drinking for three toxic chemicals: Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Styrene.
Depending both on the compound involved and the body region exposed, skin can act as a fairly
strong barrier to chemical entry or as no barrier at all.

Their analyses were based on data published for the hand, one of the least porous areas of the
body. Their most surprising finding was that for a swimmer, between 83 percent and 91 percent of
the chemicals entering the body came through the skin.

Mesothelioma Research Funding: Miracle Foundation

Filed under: Cancer, Lung-Mesothelioma-Asbestos — Ermenegildo Billar @ 9:45 am

Not much is known about mesothelioma, even though each year around 10,000 people die of it around the US. The first case of mesothelioma linked to asbestos inhaling was recorded as early as 1898. Then year by year more cases started to appear until now where the number reaches more than 100,000.

According to the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 1.3 million US hard workers of the construction industries and those involved in buildings and equipment maintenance are at risk of acquiring mesothelioma by inhaling asbestos. You most certainly think that a mesothelioma research funding should be started. Well you’re right, and there is! It’s called the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. Their mission is to and I quote:

‘ ? funding the highest quality and most promising research projects from around the world through our rigorous peer-reviewed process;

? helping patients connect with national meso experts and obtain the most up-to-date information on treatment options;

? and advocating in Washington D.C. for federal mesothelioma research funding to stop this national tragedy.’

You can rest assured that someone somewhere is doing something about informing the people of the deadly mesothelioma. We can dream of a day in which no more companies use this toxic material… asbestos.

General Information

So far mesothelioma is known to be a malignant tumor caused by inhaling asbestos fibers for a long period of time. It is very hard to control and its symptoms appear from 10 to 20 and in some cases even 30 years after exposure. The most common types are pleural mesothelioma, which affects the lungs, and peritoneal mesothelioma, which affects the abdomen.

For now there are various treatments that can be used to care for mesothelioma. It generally depends on the stage of the disease, your age and the location of the cancer. It varies from radiation rays, chemotherapy, and surgery. However none of these procedures actually cure the illness, they just act according to symptoms and try to alleviate the patient from as much pain as possible.

After certain events in his life, Ermenegildo Billar has dedicated years of his life to understanding and helping people with the malignant mesothelioma. For your comfort he decided to create http://www.infothelioma.com so you can have easy access to his research.

Lung Cancer - The Stages And Treatments Involved In Treating The Disease

Lung cancer forms in the tissues of your lungs generally in the cells which line your air passages.lung cancer is a very aggressive type of cancer and if not caught early enough can have a very poor outcome.

Generally, lung cancers originate in the lining of the bronchi. Plus it can also form in the glands below the lining of the bronchi, usually in the periphery of the lungs.

There are four recognizable stages of lung cancer. Stage one is the mildest and stage four is the most severe form. Remember though, that all stages of lung cancer are very serious.

Let us now examine the four stages:

Stage One: In this stage, the cancer is confined to the lung tissue will only. Your chance of recovering from this type of cancer is the best.

Stage Two: Here the cancer is confined to the lung tissue and lymph nodes only.

Stage Three: At this stage, the cancer is in the lung tissue and lymph nodes inside and outside the lungs.

Stage Four: When you reach this stage, the cancer has spread to the liver, bone, adrenal glands, brain, and other areas.

The state of development and the type of the cancer are very important when trying to heal the patient. There are two types: Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, and Small Cell Lung Cancer. What follows are the likely treatments and approximate cure rates for each stage of lung cancer:

Stage One: The main treatment here involves surgery.

Cure rate is around 67%.

Stage Two: The main treatment for this type of cancer also involves surgery.

The cure rate for this type of cancer is generally in the 40 to 50% range.

Stage Three: The main treatment here includes chemotherapy and radiation.

The cure rates is generally less than 60%.

Stage Four: The main treatment involved here also includes chemotherapy and radiation. The cure rate at this stage is less than 80%.

Research is continually ongoing to study the causes of lung and other cancers, and to find new ways to prevent or even cure them.Unfortunately however, if you are diagnosed with lung cancer there is not a very good outlook attached to the outcome.

A Brief Overview of Mesothelioma

Filed under: Cancer, Lung-Mesothelioma-Asbestos — Andy Bowen @ 6:49 pm

Introduction

Mesothelioma is a cancer which affects the tissue which surrounds and protects various organs in the body. This tissue is called the Mesothelium, and Mesothelioma causes it to become abnormal, divide without control, and invade and damage nearby organs. The most common form is pleural mesothelioma which affects the sac that lines the chest cavity and protects the lungs (the pleura). Other forms are peritoneum mesothelioma (which affects the abdominal cavity) and pericardium mesothelioma (affecting the lining around the heart). The tumours can be either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous) although they are most often malignant.

Causes

Mesothelioma is caused by the inhalation of asbestos, a fibrous carcinogenic. These fibres lodge themselves in the lining of the lung affecting the mesothelial cells. Sometimes they cause scarring of the lungs (which is called asbestosis) but this is not cancerous. They can, however, trigger tumour growth between 20 to 50 years after they are inhaled (the average is 35 to 40 years). Asbestos fibres which are swallowed can reach the lining of the abdominal cavity where they play a part in causing peritoneal mesothelioma.

It is generally the case that the longer or more intense the exposure to asbestos the more likely Mesothelioma is to occur. However, there are cases of people getting Mesothelioma years after having worked with it for just a few months. The families of asbestos workers are also at risk as they would possibly have been exposed to asbestos fibres on the clothing of their loved ones.

The dangers of asbestos are now well known, but this was not always the case. Before the 1970s asbestos was a primary insulating material with little or no control in its use or handling. The resulting increase in cases of Mesothelioma is a direct cause of these past practices.

Symptoms

Mesothelioma is often advanced before symptoms occur. This means that the prognosis is not usually very good, with the average survival time for all stages of Malignant Mesothelioma being about one year. Symptoms resemble pneumonia, which coughs, breathing difficulties and abdominal pain being common.

Treatments

Mesothelioma can be treated by chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery, or a combination of the three.

Surgery

Extra pleural pneumonectomy is where the entire lung and a portion of the lining of the chest, the diaphragm, and some or the entire sac which surrounds the heart is removed.

Wide local excision targets and removes the cancer and a limited amount of the healthy tissue surrounding the cancerous region.

Pleurectomy and decortication removes part of the covering of the lungs, as well as the lining of the chest and portions of the outside covering of the lungs.

Pleurodesis uses a blend of chemicals and/or drugs to create an intentional scar between the layers of the pleura. Post surgery, the space created by the scar must be drained, using either a catheter or chest tube, and is then filled with a chemical which inhibits the accumulation of fluid in the pleura cavity.

Radiation Therapy

Radiation Therapy uses high energy x-rays to kill cancer cells.

In External radiation therapy a machine emits radiation in a targeted stream at a certain portion of the body

Internal radiation therapy uses needles, seeds and catheters to place radioactive substance directly on or near the cancer.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy uses cancer targeting drugs to stop the cells them from dividing and thus prevent their growth.

Food for Good Prostate Health

Filed under: Cancer, Prostate-Cancer — Alex Fir @ 8:47 pm

The prostate gland has a reputation as a health destroyer. Hypertrophy of the prostate gland, which affects nearly every elderly male, strangles the urethra. This troublesome condition makes urination difficult and increases the risk of bladder infections and kidney damage.

However, there are many good foods that may already be a part of your everyday diet that can help thwart the onset of prostate problems.

Tomatoes, watermelons, red grapefruit, papaya and red berries are all great sources of lycopene, a health-promoting plant pigment known for its cancer-battling ability. It also promotes a strong immune system and helps support prostate health in men.

Though fresh are always an excellent option, the lycopene in cooked tomatoes is actually absorbed more readily by the body. It is also your ally in the battle against heart disease.

Quercetin, a flavonoid that forms the backbone of many other flavonoids, may have positive effects in combating or helping to prevent many different types of cancer, including prostate. It also acts as an antihistamine and has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be helpful in relieving the pain of an inflamed prostate.
