Why We Really Need To Wear Sunglasses?

Even though most of the people in the world wearing sunglasses for the fashion purpose, sunglasses were in fact designed for protecting our eyes against UV Rays produced by the sunlight.

In general, there are 3 different kinds of Ultra Violet Radiation. The first one is the UVC rays. These rays are absorbed mostly by the upper atmosphere and it seems there are no reasons to be concerned with them. The second one is the UVA ray. Our eyes directly absorb the UVA rays. However, there is a little or no evidence that these rays may lead to any kind of eye disorders. The last one of the ultra Violet Rays is the UVB rays and they are supposed to be the most horrible rays that can damage to our eyes easily. Research conducted by the Sunglass Association showing that people who wear sunglasses on a regular basis, are less likely to get cataracts later in their lives.

Therefore, whenever you choose a pair of sunglasses, make sure that they have indications on them so that they can protect from ultra violet rays. Sunglasses are very useful and can provide 100% of the Ultra Violet protection that we needs. Thus, in case you have any question regarding the level of protection that your sunglasses provides, you can simply take them to your optometrist and they can put them on a tool which can tell how much Ultra violet rays can be absorbed from your sunglasses.

Sunglasses come in two types which are non-prescription and prescription sunglasses. They both can also benefit the eye by protecting them from the sunlight. The tint on a pair of sunglasses is irrelevant to the protection that it offers.

Hence, children as well as adults are advised to wear sunglasses whenever you have any outdoor activities. Since the ultra violet ray can easily occur over time, it is very important to protect your valuable eyes at an early age. Also, the eyes of children are supposed to be more sensitive than adult’s. The main point is that while wearing sunglasses is a fashion statement, they indeed have a special function to protect your eyes from the sunlight.

Prescription Eyeglasses-Top 5 Facts You Really Need To Know

In case someone are having the vision problems below like astigmatism, myopia as well as farsightedness, they will then need to buy prescription eyeglasses. Even though it may seem normal to us, sometimes it may be difficult to spot if we need to have prescription eyeglasses.

Here below is a short and brief list of mannerisms you may be having the similar problems. Any combinations of them are signs for you to get your eyes examined.

? When you need to sit in front of the tv too close in order to see clearly.

? When you have to hold a book too close such that it almost touches your nose.

? When you use a finger to follow along while reading.

? When you look far away, you squint.

? When you always rub your eyes.

? When you notice you become more sensitive to light.

? When your eyes frequently tear.

? When you need to close 1 eye so that you can read, watch TV or see things better.

If you find yourself, or any of your friends or relative show a combination of these above mentioned, go to have your eye check up with a licensed optometrist as soon as possible.

Also, remember not to get attracted by the self prescribing or buying discount eyeglasses as you will end up damaging your eyes even more. Since you get older, you should have eye test regularly per year so that it will stop any early eye condition from getting much worse. Do not believe that 1 kind of prescription eyeglasses can work for all kinds of eyes. You will easily get headaches, and make the problem permanent.

Thus, in case you have got your eye status properly diagnosed. You should be ready to pick your very own pair of prescription eyeglasses, do yo remember the tips mentioned before? Should your eye frame be fashionable or formal? In case you just want to buy the only one pair of prescription eyeglasses, it is better to pick a classical pair one. Apart from that, remember to ask if your lenses can be scratch resistant.

Furthermore, if your are buying for your kids, whose prescriptions always change, simply keep changing the lenses so the prescription can warrant it instead of changing the frame.

At last, you can choose to buy cheap frames, but you can not make sure the quality of the lenses are good enough for you. If you want prescription eyeglasses, it is better to go to a licensed optometrist in order to protect your these two most valuable gifts.

Buying Special Effects Contact Lenses for Halloween

In less than a couple of months the ghosts and goblins will be out for Halloween. It is the time of the year when we don costumes and act out our alter ego. To enhance your Halloween look you should consider special effects contact lenses. Special Effects contact lenses give you eyes that mesmerize. They are an excellent compliment to any costume.

With Special Effects contact lenses you can become animalistic, dazed, exotic, freaky, ghoulish, mystical and otherworldly. There are numerous styles to choose from, including manson, psycho, rock star, flame, creepers, shamrock, red cat eyes, banshee, vampire red, darth, and vader. Halloween is about standing out in the crowd, and with Special Effects contact lenses you will leave an eerie impression.

So where do you purchase Special Effects contacts? It is important to buy your contacts from a legitimate business. This could be from a local eye center, but you may find their selection limited.

You can purchase your Special Effects contacts from several popular online contact lens retailers. They will have the most extensive selection, and their contacts are of the highest quality. These are the same contacts your eye doctor would prescribe. When you buy online you will save significant money and in most cases you avoid paying state taxes. Best of all you can shop from your computer and have them delivered to your door.

Get a prescription from a licensed eye care professional. The FDA has issued a consumer alert in regards to Special Effects contact lenses, they state that they ‘present significant risks of blindness and other eye injury if they are distributed without a prescription or without proper fitting by a qualified eye care professional.’ Once you have your prescription it is easy to order online.

Do not share Special Effect contact lenses. Sharing contact lenses may spread micro-organisms that may result in serious eye health problems

Use care when using Special Effects contact lenses. Just like regular contacts, Special Effects lenses require the same hygienic care and maintenance. They need to be stored in saline solution and should be handled properly. Discard your lenses as prescribed by your eye care provider.

So make you appointment now so you can have your Special Effects contacts in plenty of time for Halloween. And don?t just think that your contacts should only be worn at Halloween. Once you have them you can wear them anywhere you want to make an impact.

To Book Air With the Cruise Line or Not To - THAT is the Question!

Since most of you do not live within driving distance to popular embarkation ports, one of the most important decisions to make when booking a cruise is whether or not to purchase the air package offered by the cruise line.

As with everything else, there are pros and cons.

Following are some of the PROS of booking your air through the cruise line.

–No hassles with trying to book your own air and making sure air arrival and departure times will coordinate with the ship?s itinerary. The cruise lines will make sure your flight coincides with the ship?s itinerary.

–No worries about transfers from airport to port. Most cruise lines include this wonderful perk when purchasing their cruise/air package. Depending on how far the airport is to the port, it may be worth it (money-wise).

–Additionally, the cruise line will pick up your luggage and transport it to the port. However, if this is the only reason you are purchasing the cruise/air packages, ?transfers? can be purchased separately.

–No stresses if the flight is delayed (that never happens, right?) and you miss the ship. The cruise line will bend over backwards to make sure you board at the next port or even delay the ship?s departure time.

–No out of pocket fees if you decide to cancel the cruise prior to the cruise line?s penalty phase. Most cruise lines will reimburse both your cruise fare and air fare in full.

Following are some of the CONS of booking your air through the cruise line

–Most of the time, the air package offered by the cruise line is considerably more expensive than booking one?s own air. Even with the transfers included, it may not be worth it. This is not always the case and a good travel agent will always research both options.

Surely you have stopped reading by now. All you needed was the ?considerably more expensive? statement and the decision was made to book your own air. If I haven?t scared you off yet, read on?.

–The flight schedule will not be available until just a few weeks prior to sailing. The cruise line will decide who the carrier will be as well as the flight times. Additionally, if airlines have overbooked the day of sailing, the cruise line may have client depart the day before the sailing date. If this happens, the cruise line will pay for your hotel stay as well as other incurred expenses. There is a way to get around this (if you want to pay). Paying a deviation fee (normally $50.00) plus any difference in air fare (if any) will give the traveler some control, but at what price? Any deviation also requires, at minimum, 90 days notice.

–Frequent flyer miles cannot be used when booking your cruise/air package, even if you pay a deviation fee.

–When traveling as a group, the cruise line will not guarantee that your group will be on the same flight. The only guarantee given is that all passengers within the same cabin will travel together.

Have you heard enough to make a decision? ALWAYS ask your travel agent to research both options so that an informed decision can be made. Happy Sailing!!!

ADDITIONAL TIPS

–If booking your own air, it is best to arrive a day early. Travel agents may have great deals on air/hotel packages. If that?s not an option, to be safe, try to book flights which arrive in the port city before 1:00 PM and depart the port city after 1:00 PM

–Ask your travel agent how far the airport is to the port and how much a cab ride costs to make an informed decision about transfers.

–Always purchase travel insurance through your travel agent to avoid loosing your vacation investment due to unforeseen setbacks.

Contact Lenses and the Power of Attraction

According to recent research, wearing contact lenses instead of glasses can significantly increase your pulling power. Of course this might not come as any real surprise to fans of Dorothy Parker who famously said, ?Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses.’

This is a stereotype that plenty of movie makers are only too happy to exploit. How many films can you think of, for example, where a geek is transformed into a goddess via an elaborate makeover process that starts with glasses being removed?

The study that demonstrated that wearing contact lenses instead of glasses can boost your attractiveness to the opposite sex was carried out in a London nightclub. Participants were divided into three groups:

  • Those who wore their usual form of eyewear
  • Those who swapped their usual contact lenses for glasses
  • Those who swapped their usual glasses for contact lenses

Unbeknownst to the participants, eight monitors walked around the club watching them to confirm whether their perceptions of events were accurate.

The vast majority of those who switched to contact lenses said they felt more confident whilst nearly 80% of those who switched to glasses said that they felt less confident. Possibly more significantly double the number of contact lens wearers compared to glasses wearers said that they had kissed someone that evening.

However, although contact lenses might make people feel more attractive, glasses can make them look more intelligent and responsible. Studies have shown that people who wear glasses are more likely to get hired from a job interview than their non glasses wearing competitors.

So do glasses or contact lenses make a better impression? These studies would suggest that the answer lies somewhere down the middle. Therefore to get the best of both worlds wear your contact lenses on a date and keep a pair of glasses in your desk drawer at work!

The Serious Risks to Your Health from Using a Computer

Did you know there were serious risks to your health when working with a computer at home or at work?

The rise in general computer usage in modern society using keyboards that permit high speed typing have resulted in an epidemic of injuries of the hands, arms, and shoulders. Use of pointing devices like mice and trackballs are as much a cause, if not more so. The thousands of repeated keystrokes and long periods of clutching and dragging mice slowly accumulates damage to the upper body limbs.

The symptoms of RSI known as Repetitive Strain Injuries include aches, pain, swelling, numbness, tingling, weakness and cramps. RSI is caused by a combination of overuse and repetition, awkward or static posture and insufficient recovery time. RSI is preventable and treatable. It is vital not to ignore the early warning signs. If you have any of the symptoms of RSI take action now on prevention. If symptoms persist seek treatment immediately.

If you are encountering any of the following ailments including Tingling, coldness, or numbness in the hands at anytime even after a period of using your keyboard, some loss of strength and coordination in the hands, Pain that wakes you up at night sometimes , Feeling the need to massage your hands after keying in data, wrists, and arms and Pain in the upper back, shoulders or neck, this will be most likely due to the repeated use of a computer.

If you are encountering any of the ailments described above and you use a computer for more than three hours a day whilst at work, then your employer is not preventing your health problems, you can actually win considerable damages in a court of law for this breach in regulations.

The Display Screen Equipment Regs 1992 sets out what an employer must do, by law to protect your safety whilst at work using a computer. Your employer can be prosecuted in a Civil & Criminal court of law if the employer knew, or ought to have known, that the employee was exposed to risk of injury from using a computer. This is obvious as Health & Safety in computer usage has been well communicated to all employers through the promotion of health and safety and common sense.

Also given that the foreseeable risk, that the employer failed to take reasonable steps to prevent or reduce the risk of injury to the employee and that the employees injury was caused, or contributed to, by the work the employee was required to carry out and the employers breach of duty.

So how can you and your employer protect your safety whilst working with computers whilst at work? The most important tool for anyone to use in this instance is to complete a Computer Usage Risk Assessment otherwise known as a DSE assessment or Workstation assessment.

The areas risk assessed include how long you work on a computer, do you take regular breaks, are all your computer equipment set up correctly to prevent injury, is there glare on the monitor screen, seat and posture ,space to move legs, space in front of the keyboard to rest your arms, noise distractions, can your feet touch the floor, can you place all your equipment around you without needing to stretch etc.

If your employer does not know how to carry out a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to your health whilst at work, then recommend they do so immediately to prevent further damage to you and your colleagues health whilst using computers.

Do not become one of the may thousands of people suffering from the painful condition of RSI and other computer usage related health conditions in the world today, act now before its too late!

10 Facts You Must Know Regarding LASIK and Laser Eye Treatment

Thinking of having laser eye treatment? Below are ten vital things you need to know about lasik.

Fact #1: Not everyone can undergo laser eye treatment. If you wear glasses or contacts, it doesn’t mean that you can have laser eye treatment. You should consult with your ophthalmologist to make sure that laser eye treatment is the appropriate procedure for your eye condition.

Fact #2: Lasik is a procedure that you should never take lightly. So if you have determined that laser eye treatment is right for you, the next thing you need to do is find an ophthalmologic surgeon, preferably one who is board certified. Look into his or her credentials and experience. Find out if he or she can provide you with post-op consultations or if you will be referred to a different doctor.

Fact #3: Are you near-sighted or myopic? Do you have astigmatism? If you have any of these vision problems, lasik is a recommended procedure. If you have severe myopia, you may have to undergo several procedures.

Fact #4: If you have a history of dry eye, corneal disease or other eye conditions, lasik is not a recommended procedure.

Fact #5: During a lasik procedure, you will be awake. Thus, your surgeon should explain to you what will happen during the procedure. Likewise, you should express your concerns and questions beforehand so that your surgeon can reassure you.

Fact #6: Post-operative care is very important in a lasik procedure. Thus, you must follow post-op eye care to the letter. For instance, if you are prescribed to use eye drops after lasik surgery, you must apply the eye drops at the prescribed times or frequency. Doing so will help the cornea heal properly.

Fact #7: Lasik surgery is not miracle surgery. Don’t expect to come out of surgery with perfect vision. Some patients’ visions are corrected to 20/20 or 20/40 while others are not. Lasik surgery does not guarantee perfect results.

Fact #8: Lasik cannot correct presbyopia or far-sightedness that occurs in middle age. If you have this condition and still opt to undergo lasik surgery, you will still end up having to use reading glasses.

Fact #9: Lasik is not a procedure without risks. You should know that like other types of surgery, lasik has risks. You may have complications such as over correction, infections or damage to the cornea.

Fact #10: As with any other health condition, it is very important that you talk with your doctor about possible laser eye treatment or any other alternatives he or she can recommend.

Licenses ? The Official Go-ahead

Modern society is full of rules, laws and regulations. In order to keep balance and make life harder for criminals, most business goes through official channels, allowing the government to check on which people are doing what and protect us from fraud. A key part of this is licensing, whereby a person must apply for official permission to so something.

A license is simply a legal document that permits the holder to do something. A license is required to run a pub, to drive a car, to own a gun- the list is endless. Sometimes they take the form of a passport or a permit. Officially a license giver is called a ?licensor? and the recipient is a ?licensee?.

The government is not the only body that gives licenses. Censorship groups license games and movies. A person?s intellectual property may be licensed. For example, a cartoonist may grant a comic company license to use one of his characters in their comic. A company may license another company to use their trademark without being in infringement of trademark laws. This kind of activity in the business world leads to substantial money being made from selling the rights to reproduce or reference things like characters and logos. Even licenses granted by the government tend to cost money to cover the expense of producing it and the paperwork involved. The most common license sought by an average person is a driving license, which certifies a person to drive a vehicle that they can pass an official test in. Most people hold one and of course you need it with you to prove that you are fit to drive. In much the same way, doctors, electricians, and other occupations with high responsibility require a license to practise. This license proves that you are capable of the job and you have been checked by the government, definitely piece of mind for someone going to a doctor, when you want to know that the practitioner has been tested on his competence.

Ten Reasons for Blurry Vision

Blurry vision can be caused by several different things. Almost everybody has experienced it at some point in there lives, and often blurry vision is caused by our own stupidity. Not always, but most of the time. That?s probably why I?ve experienced blurry vision several times in my own life.

The easiest way to get blurry vision is to walk around without your glasses on. This may sound stupid, but lots of people refuse to go to the eye doctors and get their eyes checked or re-checked. The result: blurry vision.

You can also get blurry vision from consuming too much alcohol or taking illegal drugs. I?m sure most of you have had a few too many beers and had your vision go wacko as a result. I?m also sure that none of you have ever done illegal drugs, so you wouldn?t have any first hand experience with blurry vision because of it. Guess you?ll just have to take my word for it.

If you have high blood pressure you may experience some blurry vision. This is explained in depth in the articles on high blood pressure found on at our site.

Blurry vision can also be a result of over exerting yourself. For instance, if you go jogging and push your body to the limits, it?s only a matter of time before you aren?t getting enough oxygen to fuel your body and so your vision may blur.

If you have a cold or viral infection you may get blurry vision in short doses. If your body is fighting off an infection of some type, it saps your resources and sometimes you end up with blurry vision. It could also be secondary to allergy symptoms.

Some prescription drugs have the added bonus of giving you blurry vision. If you are experiencing blurry vision from a prescription drug, you might want to consult your doctor. They may change your prescription to one that doesn?t give you blurry vision.

I suffer from migraine head aches occasionally. Often, when I?m suffering from one of these episodes, I get blurry vision.

You may experience blurry vision at steep altitudes. I?m sure that most of you don?t mountain climb so you will never have to worry about this side effect. You never know for sure though, so I thought I?d add it in for good measure.

I?m also afraid of heights. If I?m up high (high for me may not be high for you. Anything over ten feet is a major accomplishment for me. I?m such a wimp.) I tend to get blurry vision. Funny how the body works. I?m afraid of heights because I don?t want to fall, so naturally my body gives me blurry vision. Who says nature doesn?t make mistakes?

Sometimes blurry vision could be a symptom of a more serious health problem. If you suffer from blurry vision frequently, you should see a doctor and get checked out. Perhaps, you might also think about seeing your friendly neighbourhood eye doctor for good measure.
