An increasing number of children suffer from severe food allergy. Children don’t just develop food allergy when they begin to eat solid food: some develop food allergy right from the start, when they’re being breastfeed.
If a mother is allergic to any food the chances are her child may also be allergic to those foods. Many mothers don’t realise that they are allergic as they display little or no symptoms. However, the allergic reaction can be much more pronounced in their suckling child. What mother eats; baby eats.
There are eight types of food that account for all but 10 percent of food-allergy; these are eggs, wheat, dairy, soy and peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish.
One in every 17 children under the age of 3 — that’s 5.8 percent — has a food allergy, according to The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about food allergies. But identifying that your baby is suffering from food-allergy can be difficult as the symptoms displayed are attributable to other factors.
A number of children eventually outgrow food allergies. Peanut allergies, however, tend to be lifelong. If you know that you suffered from food allergy as a child you should avoid those foods whilst you are breastfeeding. Even if you have never suffered from any food-allergy you can cut down the risks of your baby developing a food-allergy by avoiding the eight main allergy causing foods. Also, when you wean your child you should avoid feeding your child these foods until they are at least one year of age. Introduce these foods one-by-one and observe your child’s reaction after feeding.
If you suspect that your child is suffering from food-allergy you should consult with your pediatrician. Unfortunately many pediatricians are reluctant to conclude that a child is allergic to food. Your may have to fight your corner. Also many are hesitant to tell a mother to drop things from her diet, because they’re concerned about her nutrition. Stand your ground and if your pediatrician refuses to listen to your concerns, you can ask to be referred to an allergist.
The following are common symptoms of food allergy or intolerance:
Chronic eczema: Long periods of scaly and itchy skin rashes.
Hives: Often-itchy red welts on the surface of the skin.
Chronic unexplained digestive or respiratory problems.
Colic: chronic, unexplained, excessive crying.
Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that can be fatal. Call the emergency services immediately if you see signs of anaphylaxis. Symptoms include: Severe hives or hives in conjunction with another reaction, facial swelling, swelling of mouth and throat (the constriction of the throat is especially dangerous because as the throat swells shut, the child will stop breathing — child turns blue with lack of oxygen), vomiting, diarrhea, cramping, drop in blood pressure, fainting, death.

Seeing the appearance of your child?s first tooth is something you, as a parent, will remember for the rest of your life. But unlike other developmental milestones, teething doesn?t happen all at once. In fact, it can be a long, drawn-out and painful process for both baby and parent.
Babies are born with all 20 of their milk teeth (deciduous teeth), you just can?t see them as they are still buried in her gums. Teeth usually start to erupt around six months of age. At around three to months of age you can probably feel the bumps under your baby?s gums. Checking your baby?s gums is usually a good idea, making sure everything is okay: you should also be checking your baby?s mouth for oral thrush. Before checking your baby?s gums, wash your hands. You don?t need to apply any creams or oils, just gently move your finger over the gums and look inside your baby?s mouth.
Spotting the symptoms of teething can be tricky. However, there are some signs to look out for that may mean that your baby is teething. A baby becoming grumpy is usually the most obvious, and no wonder. The breaking of the gum tissue can be a very painful experience. For most babies, the appearance of the first tooth is the most painful; however, the eruption of the molar teeth can be the most discomforting to a baby.
Excessive dribbling (drooling) is another sign that your baby might be teething. However recent research is now leaning towards dribbling having nothing to do with teething and is just something babies do at that age. Your child can develop a skin rash around the mouth from too much dribbling. This can be distressing for a parent but the condition is transitory and can be easily treated.
It used to be said that teething produced a fever. This is nonsense however. Teething does not cause high temperatures. If your baby does have a temperature don?t ignore it, get medical advice.
If you baby is in discomfort because of teething, you can help in a number of ways. The first thing to try is to distract your child. It sounds obvious, but this simple solution can really help most babies. You can also give your child something to chew on. You?re bound to notice that your baby wants to chew everything it comes across when it?s teething. There are many different teething rings and pacifiers on the market. Which type to buy, is a personal choice. You can buy basic, cheap plastic ones to expensive silver rings. Make sure you thoroughly wash and teething rings or pacifiers after use. You can also try giving your baby a damp cloth that has been chilled in the fridge, to chew on; just make sure the cloth is clean.
Yet another thing you can try is giving your child a piece of fruit or vegetable to chew on. Again, cool it in the fridge first. Also make sure the food item is large so that your baby can?t swallow it and choke. It is also vital that the food item does not break up into to smaller pieces to avoid the possibility of your baby choking. Test the food yourself before giving it to your baby, Carrots that have been chilled in the fridge are good.
Whether using carrots, rings or pacifiers, never, ever leave your child unsupervised. Even the firmest carrot, most expensive teething ring, can break or cause your child to choke.
Other products that can help alleviate teething pains are such things as homeopathic ointments and teething gels. These should only be given as a last resort and only after medical consultation.
Teething can be a very stressful time for both babies and parents but it is also a time of great excitement for both. The important thing to realise is that teething does take time and can sometimes be painful for your baby. But it will pass this developmental stage and your child will not remember the discomfort and you, as a parent, will soon forget.

Choosing to bottle feed your baby can be a hard decision to make. You need to think deeply about why you believe it?s best to bottle feed rather than breastfeed your child. Having made your decision to bottle feed, you should also think about the type of formula milk that?s best for your baby.
Formula milk comes in 3 forms: ready-made, concentrate and powder. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Ready made milk formula is the easiest to use; all you need to do is open the container and feed your baby its contents. The main disadvantage with ready-made formula is it is the most expensive option, so if you?re trying to save pennies it may not be the best choice. Formula concentrate is cheaper than ready-made, but you do have to add boiled water. The cheapest and most widely used form of formula milk is powdered formula. As well as having the advantage of being cheap, it is also the easiest to store. Both ready-made and concentrate need to be stored in the fridge whereas you only need to stored formula made from powder, after it has been mixed with water.
As you?ll soon discover, you need to be prepared when you travel with your baby. You need to take along everything you need to prepare your child?s formula. If you?re planning on staying somewhere away from home, you need to think about: will where you?re staying have a fridge? Will it have facilities to provide you with boiled water if you?re using concentrate or powder? What about cleaning facilities? Can you plug in your bottle sterilizer? Even if you are using concentrate or powder (and trying to save pennies) I would strongly recommend buying some ready-made baby formula and keeping it stored in the fridge. You can then use it as a standby for when you need to make a trip out somewhere.
As well as coming in three forms, baby formula comes in different types: the main ones being cow?s milk and soybean. In addition to these basic formula types, you can also find lactose free formula, formula supplemented with DHA and ARA, and formula for preemies.
By far the most popular and probably the best for your child is baby formula made from cow?s milk. Choosing the right brand is a personal choice. All brands now sold in Western countries will meet their government?s guidelines. However, different brands will contain different levels of sugar and protein. All baby milk formulas are fortified with iron and Vitamin D (these can be lacking in breast milk) and contain lactose (milk sugar). Brands such as Similac Advance, Enfamil Lipil, and Nestle Good Start Supreme are made with lactose and cow’s milk based proteins.
Soy based formula is now becoming more popular. Unlike cow?s milk it does not contain lactose. If your child has lactose intolerance then soy formula milk may be right for your child. Brands include Enfamil ProSobee, Similac Isomil, and Nestle Good Start Supreme Soy. There has been some controversy as to whether soy protein can cause long term health implications to babies who are fed soy-based formula. However, a recent study, led by Dr Brian L. Strom from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, showed no difference in the long-term health effects of soy infant formula and those based on cow’s milk. But if you have any doubts then stick with baby formula milk that is made from cow?s milk.
Goat?s milk is gaining in popularity and some feel it is better for baby and the environment. Using goat?s milk is probably fine; however, goat?s milk does only contain around 10% of the folic acid that is found in cow?s milk. So, if you are planning to use goat?s milk, find a brand that has been fortified with folic acid. On the plus side, goat?s milk formula does contain far higher levels of copper and antioxidant selenium. Some also believe that babies have a lactose intolerance will do better by switching from cow?s to goat?s milk. Whilst it is true that Goats milk does contain lower levels of lactose, if your child is lactose-intolerant then you are probably best switching to soy based formula or a lactose free formula of cow?s milk.
Lactose free formulas, such as Lactofree and Similac Lactose free are made without lactose, but do have cow’s milk proteins in them. Babies are not usually thought to be born with lactose intolerance, so these formulas are usually not needed. If your child is experiencing problems with cow?s formula, seek professional advice before switching to a lactose free formula or soy-based formula.
Other infant formulas include Enfamil AR (anti regurgitation), which is thought to be helpful for infants with reflux and premature formulas, such as Similac Special Care and Enfamil Premature. Again, you probably should never need to buy this type of formula as your baby?s reflux is probably being caused by something else. Again, speak to your doctor before switching to this type of formula.
Very recently, new infant formulas have been introduced that are supplemented with DHA and ARA, which are found in breast milk and are thought to help with an baby?s development. Brands of these supplemented formula include Enfamil Lipil, Similac Advance, and Nestle Good Start Supreme DHA & ARA. Talk to your doctor about these and what benefits, if any, they could offer your child.
Having read the above it is hoped that choosing the best baby milk formula for your child has been made easier. If you have any doubts or further questions talk to your paediatrician, they will be able to give you more information about all aspects of bottle-feeding your baby.

Around a new born baby everyone gets excited. The whole family eagerly waits for the baby to arrive. All friends and acquaintances are trying to find out as much as possible about the little one. There are also many companies that get excited about that too. They have free baby offers available for the happy new parents.
There is a very good offer that?s available through Enfamil Family Beginnings, and it is one of my favorite. It is a great program suitable for anyone who is expecting a baby. It is also good for the mothers who plan breastfeeding for their beloved ones. Because of the countless benefits this program offers it has actually turned into a real must for expectant mothers.
I had a strong desire to breastfeed my baby girl. However I was unsure if I would be able to breastfeed long enough and whether the quantity of my milk will be sufficient or the baby will need formula as an addition. So I just signed up for the Enfamil baby offers, no matter I actually was against using formula. And I don?t regret that decision because of several things.
First of all I was sent by them interesting and precious information concerning the child feeding ? not only for the first months of the newborn, but all the specific food needs up to toddler years. Those materials were accompanied by two diaper bags ? a large one and a small one and believe me they proved to be tough enough, in spite of the burden they took through time.
Second of all Enfamil were so kind to send me formula several times, absolutely free, without me even asking for it. I was very happy about that because I knew my baby might happen to need it. And even though my baby eventually did not I gave the numerous samples to a neighbor family whose baby did. So everything got into use.
A free subscription to American Baby Magazine is also one of the baby offers available and I can call it my favorite one. For a whole year I received this wonderful magazine without paying a cent and what?s more I didn?t receive unpleasant e-mails or phone calls asking me to subscribe and apart from that I found the magazine really useful for any parent, this was the other reason that made me really subscribe.
In continuation with the subject of valuable information for reading you can have in mind the offer of State Farm ? a copy of Mayo Clinic?s book for pregnancy, which with its solid three pounds of weight is a detailed medical survey which could be of use for every parent; what?s more it?s absolutely free.
Of course in internet you may find lots of other free baby offers. A quick search in the net might provide your baby with a lot of useful things.

It?s taken nine months to get this far, and you have every right to be more than proud of your newest family member! But with all of the work that comes along with being a new parent, whether you?re a first-timer or an old pro, finding the time to visit or even call everyone personally is next to impossible. Sending out baby birth announcements is the fastest, easiest and most convenient way to share your joy with the people in your life.
Believe it or not, just about everyone on your list of is very much aware of what it takes to bring home a new addition and get settled into your new life. On the other hand, they also want to know all of the ?details? like gender, length and weight of your little one. Baby birth announcements offer the ideal medium to making those around you happy while keeping your adjustment period as stress free as possible for you, the parents. You can pick out the design of your announcement ahead of time, decide whether or not you?ll have a newborn photo involved and leave all of the ?unknown? information open until after the big day arrives. Remember, the good birth announcement printing companies will allow you to pre-order your selection, but the best will ship the envelopes portion to you ahead of time so that you can fill out the names and addresses of the recipients before your baby arrives. That way, all you?ll need to do to finish your baby birth announcements after junior comes home is to properly notify your printing company of choice the details of the birth, place them in the previously stamped and addressed envelopes, and place them in your mailbox and put the flag up.
Don?t forget about the latest variations from traditional baby announcements. For the addition of a second child to your family, the latest trend to assist on the adjustment period for the older child is the ?sibling announcement?, reminding the world that being a new big brother or sister is a very important part in your growing family, all while sharing the exciting news of your new addition. Gender specific and photo announcements will always be favorites amongst traditionalists.
But before you get your heart broken, say if your chosen printer doesn?t pre-send the envelopes, or the design you?ve chosen isn?t available for ?quick-ship? options, do all of your homework on a few companies before you make up your mind on a design. Keep an open mind when deciding on the finished product, as your announcement should be as original as your child is.

All people want to keep their memories preserved. Photos are the thing that keeps the memories alive. As the years go by, you watch your baby growing up. You don?t want to lose the memory of the baby?s look of your child. Baby photos are the only way not to lose it. If you take care of the baby photos, they will last for a long time. You just need to acquire the knowledge of the right way to take care of the baby photos. Only if the baby photos are in a good state, you will enjoy the pleasure to look at them.
The first principle when taking care of the baby photos is to keep them away of direct light. This is probably the most important rule. It is very important to specify that baby photos have to be kept away from any type of light, not only away of sunlight. It is not correct to delude yourself that the light will not damage your black and white baby photos. Light destroys the color in all pictures ? no matter if the baby photos are black and white or colorful.
Many people keep their baby photos in closets, attics or garages. This way of storage is not proper. The second important rule while taking care of the baby photos is to keep them away from abnormal heat. A cool dry place will be the best choice for the baby photos. There no light or mould will be able to damage them. Be sure that the bay photos are not stored close to a vent hole because the heat and cold changes will damage them too. My advice for your baby photos is to put them in a picture album. A well-constructed polypropylene album will do a good work. In this way you won?t ruin the baby photos for sure.
The third tip, which I will tell you about the storage of baby photos, is to place them in picture frames. Pay attention that before placing them some safeguards should be made. First, put the baby photo on material that is anti acid and this will prevent damage. Then, make a point that the baby photo is not exposed to direct light. Place the baby photos in a room with low-level lighting. In addition, place spacers behind the baby photos in order not to lose them.
The next crucial rule to succeed in saving the baby photos is to put the baby photos away from cigarette smoke. Excessive smoke can easily damage the baby photos. Smoking in the room where you keep the photos should be restrained. Otherwise, you?d better remove them to a place you do not smoke. Also, the kitchen is not the right place for your baby photos. Smoke from the food will certainly ruin the baby photos. Any cloud of smoke will take place on the baby photos and it will destroy them.
All your baby photos are kept in remembrance of wonderful moments and special places. Try to prevent damage on the baby photos. If it happens, professional picture restoration is your only chance. Stole and place your baby photos with care and the memories will be vivid forever.

Is your dog intensely jealous of your affections? Does she always try to come between you and your spouse when you get close? Then naturally her reaction towards the new addition in the family who will certainly grab all the attention may not be pleasant. You need to prepare her for the change to be followed so as to make her interactions with the new baby safe. It’s hard for a dog who’s always been treated like a baby to roll over and play dog when a real baby appears on the scene. But that’s exactly what she’ll have to do when her place in your heart has to be shared by that tiny but threatening new addition you’ll soon be bringing home from the hospital. Though a little initial moping around may be unavoidable, you’ll want to do whatever you can to prevent excessive jealousy and, of course, any aggressive reactions. Start now,
Invest in an obedience training programme for your dog if she isn’t trained already - and even if you’ve never felt there was the need for it before. Friskiness and puppy-like exuberance aren’t usually a problem in a childless home, but they could be in one with a new baby. Particularly because the baby’s behaviour won’t be controllable or predictable, your dog’s must be. Obedience training won’t take the spirit out of your pet, but it will make her more stable, and thus less likely to harm your baby.
Get your dog used to babies now, if you can. Invite friends with babies over to the house, or let her (under careful supervision, and if the parent is willing) sniff near a baby in the park or be petted by a toddler, so that she can become familiar with their smells and their moves. Alternatively you can apply baby powder or baby oil on yourself to make your pet familiar with the smell.
Get your dog used to the life with a baby in the house. Use a baby-size dolls as a prop in her training. Put a nappy on the doll; carry, sing to, and rock it; nurse it; put it to bed in the cot; take it for a walk in the pram (if you don’t mind the neighbours staring). Now and then play a tape of a baby crying.
Take your dog for a complete medical checkup. Be sure that your dog is flea and tick-free (ask your vet about using a pill or another method that’s effective against these pests yet safe to use around your baby). Also be sure to have your dog checked for worms of any kind.
If your dog’s feeding station is one your baby will later be able to get to easily, move it to the cellar, garage or some other area that doesn’t invite a curious crawler, since even an easy going dog can become vicious when her food is threatened. If you live in a small apartment, get your dog on an evening feeding schedule and remove her food dish during the day. Don’t even leave her food around when the dog is safely outside, because they may pose a choking hazard if your baby manages to swallow it.
After delivery, but while you’re still in the hospital or birthing centre, have your spouse bring home an unwashed piece of clothing your newborn has worn so that your pet can become familiar with the baby’s scent. When you arrive home, let your spouse hold the baby while you greet your pet. Then to satisfy her curiosity, let the dog sniff the baby who should be well swaddled, with head and face protected by your arms. Once the baby’s snug in the cot, break out a special treat for the dog and spend a little time alone with her.
Be attentive to your new baby, of course, but don’t act overprotective around your dog. This will only make the animal more jealous and insecure. Instead, as you would with a human sibling (though on a different level, naturally), try to get your pet involved with the new addition and let her know she’s still a loved member of the family. Pet her while you nurse, walk her while you take the baby out in the pram, allow her into the baby’s room while you’re there. Try to make a point of spending at least five minutes every day alone with her. But should she show even the slightest aggressiveness towards your baby, reprimand her immediately.
If, despite your efforts to prepare and reassure her, your dog seems hostile towards the new arrival, keep her tied up and away from the baby until you re sure she’s worked out her feelings. Just because a dog has never bitten before doesn’t mean she’s not capable of it under duress. If tying up the dog only adds to her hostility you may have to consider finding another home for her.

Car Seats
When you have a baby you need to make sure that your baby is safe wherever you are, and the car is no exception. You need to make sure you have the proper car seat for your child, and that it is installed properly. This is very important to ensure your child’s safety in case of an accident.
When you leave the hospital they will make sure you have a car seat for your child, and may even check to make sure it is properly installed in the car. Some hospitals are even giving car seats to parents to ensure the child’s safety. If you decide to get your own car seat instead of the one provided you have a variety to choose from.
Infant Car Seat
The newest style of infant seat has a base that is buckled in the car and stays there. The carrier itself snaps in and out of the base in the car. This makes it easy to get the child in and out of the car without having to mess with a seatbelt every time. With this type of car seat you can leave the baby in the carrier and take the whole carrier into the store or house with you. This is especially helpful with newborns. As the child gets older you may choose to take the child out of the carrier and leave the carrier in the car.
Convertible Car Seat
Next you will need a convertible car seat. This car seat is used once the baby is one year old and meets the height and weight requirements. Convertible car seats may be placed in a forward or backward facing position. The seat will need to be facing backward if your child outgrows his infant seat, but is not yet old enough to sit facing forward.
When choosing a convertible car seat you have many options. First you can choose if it has the five point harness, or if it has and over the head latch. You can also choose the color and it may even come with a cup holder. No matter which type of convertible car seat you choose, it can be used until your child weighs 40 pounds.
Booster Seat
After a convertible car seat you will need a booster seat. The booster seat can be used until your child weighs 80 pounds. There are different types of booster seats. The first type is a small base that the child sits in, which allows them to use a regular seatbelt. The other kind may be a convertible seat that is also a booster seat. When the child outgrows the convertible seat, you take the straps off and use the regular seat belt instead. The child is still seated in the actual car seat, just with different straps.
Just remember that no matter what type of car seat you use it is for your child’s safety. The child always needs to be seated in the back seat until they are 12 due to the air bags. Make sure you take the time to buckle the seat and your child in properly to insure they are safe.

Crib Safety
When you have a baby there are many things you need. You need clothes, bottles, diapers, wipes, a crib, and many others. This can be overwhelming when you stop to think about everything you need for such a small person. The cost of these items may be a concern to parents. Many places sell second hand baby items, you can even go to garage sales too. Most of these things will still be in good shape and you can find some great deals.
Secondhand
You can probably find anything you need for your baby except maybe diapers and wipes somewhere they sell secondhand items. One thing we advise would be to not buy your crib second hand. A baby spends a lot of time in his crib. Buying a new crib is a much better choice, they do use them until they are at least one year of age.
Safety Standards
The safety standards for cribs have changed over the years. If you get an older crib it may not meet today’s safety standards. The crib rails for instance need to meet measurement requirements. If the crib rails are too far apart the infant may get his head stuck between the bars. However, if the bars are too close the infant may get his arms or legs stuck between the bars. There should also be enough space between the top of the rail and the top of the crib mattress to minimize the risk of the child climbing over the railing and falling out.
Bumpers
The purpose of the bumper in the baby crib is to prevent the baby from getting hurt on the crib rails. Bumpers are made of fabric with soft filling to protect your child. If your child rolls over and bumps his head it wont hurt as bad, it also prevents the child from getting his head stuck between the bars. Even though it is designed to protect the child, you need to make sure it is secured to the crib properly to prevent suffocation. If the bumper is too loose the child could become entangled in it and suffocate.
Blankets and Pillows
These cute bedding sets you can buy usually come with matching pillows and blankets to match the bumper and crib sheet. Although it may look cute, they also pose a risk of suffocation. The child may become entangled in the blanket and may get it wrapped around his head or other body parts and cause an injury or suffocation. With a pillow it may hurt the babies neck, or if the pillow ends up on your babies face it may also cause suffocation.
Sleepers or wearable blankets that form to your babies body are suggested to keep your child warm. These two items will keep the child warm without the risk of suffocation. You may need to check on your child throughout the night to make sure he is not getting too warm.
Just remember that when purchasing a crib it is well worth the investment to buy a new crib. With a new crib you are insured that all the parts are there, it will be assembled correctly if you follow instructions, and that it meets today’s safety standards. You may also choose to buy those cute bedding sets, who could resist them. Just remember that it is a good idea to remove the pillows and blankets when the child is sleeping, and to double check to make sure the bumper is on securely to prevent injury or worse. Taking these few simple steps and precautions will make you sleep better knowing your child is safe.
Blankets, pillows can be great for decoration, but they should be removed when it comes time for baby to go to sleep. Bumpers should be fastened properly and double checked at the baby’s bedtime each night. During colder nights, parents put their babies in wearable blankets that form right to the baby. There is no risk of the baby becoming entangled in the wearable blanket. Parents should check on the baby during the night to insure that he does not get overheated when wearing the very warm blankets.
With a few little steps, parents can insure safety with their baby’s crib bedding. However, they need to remember to avoid using older baby cribs. Older cribs do not always meet today’s safety standards. They often do not come with instructions and missing a minor detail in the instructions could be disastrous. In order to assure your baby’s safety in a crib, it is very important to consider turning down the second hand offers from your friends and family and buy new. The investment will be worth the peace of mind in knowing that the baby crib you chose is safe and secure.
