Mindmapping is one of the simplest, yet most powerful tools a person can use when developing ideas. It is a non-linear way of organizing information that allows you to capture the natural flow of your ideas as they spring to mind. Mind maps were developed in the late 1960s by cognitive psychology expert and author, Tony Buzan, as a way of helping students learn and take notes in an unconventional visual format designed to increase memory retention.
The Benefits of Mindmapping
? Brainstorm new ideas, new projects, new products & services.
? Managing projects and covering all bases.
? It clearly defines the central idea, by positioning it in the center of the page.
? It allows you to indicate clearly the relative importance of each idea.
? All your information is laid out on one page.
? It allows you to add new information very easily.
? It makes it easier for you to see information in different ways, from different viewpoints, because it does not lock it into specific positions.
? It allows you to see complex relationships among ideas, which might not be as apparent if using a linear system of brainstorming.
? It provides a foundation for questioning and discovery.
Here are Some Simple Steps to Follow When Mindmapping:
Start at the center. This is contrary to the linear method that we are taught in school to begin at the top left-hand corner of the page. Our brains actually prefer starting at the center and working outward. Begin with a piece of paper. The bigger the paper size, the more complete your mind map will be. In the center of the page, write a word or phrase that embodies the entire idea that you are focusing on at the moment.
Dump it!! In order to make mindmapping work, it is necessary to let go of trying to find the right answer, or the best answer, and just allow your brain to dump ideas onto that mind map. Mindmapping is a idea-dumping process that helps stimulate new ideas and connections between those ideas.
Branch it out. As new ideas emerge, focus on those ideas and see if you can break them down even further. Allow the ideas to expand outward into branches and sub-branches. Put down all ideas without judgment or evaluation.
Work fast. Your brain works in short bursts of creative ideas, so in order to capture those ideas, you want to work as rapidly as possible to put ideas on paper. It is therefore important not to judge or evaluate the quality of those ideas or else your mind will become locked up. Work fast to get as many ideas as possible onto paper as you can.
Don?t be confined by boundaries. Make sure that you do not create boundaries for yourself when it comes to mindmapping by limiting your physical space for ideas. Don?t feel confined to a 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. Use an easel pad, or butcher paper to mindmap because this medium offers more space to elaborate on your ideas. Now there is some computer software available that allows you to mindmap. These are quite good and you can print out your mindmap when you are finished.
Don?t stop. Make sure you write down everything that comes to mind even if it is completely unrelated. Otherwise your mind will get distracted onto other things and you won?t be able to come back to what you were focusing on in the first place. Always keep your hand moving. If ideas seem to slow down then draw empty lines and your subconscious mind will work hard to fill those empty lines with ideas.
Organize later. Sometimes you see relationships between ideas immediately and sometimes you don’t, so you just connect the ideas to the central focus and keep adding to your map. Organization should not be your focus until after you get your ideas on paper.

I?ve come the conclusion that to be successful - really successful ? I?ve got to love what I do. Not like it okay, not do it because I know how, not do it because I?ve invested so much time and energy so far. I mean LOVE it! I mean the kind of love that makes you want to get up in the morning and get going. Because your work has meaning, significance, fulfillment. If these aren?t words that describe what you do day-in and day-out, then perhaps this year is your time to make a change, to step up to your big, bodacious moment (BoMo).
The beginning of the year is a great time to reflect on your life, including your personal career satisfaction. How satisfied are you with your career on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being extremely satisfied? That?s a question I kept asking myself during my years at AOL. Year after year my answer was a 7, 8 or higher. The vast majority of time I felt passionate about what I was doing; I believed what I was doing mattered. When my score dipped I asked myself serious questions as to why. Several times this process helped me pinpoint changes I needed to make to get me back on track. One time my rating was below 5 and stayed that way. This time it wasn?t about me making adjustments. It was about facing that it was my time to go. My BoMo was at hand.
I still remember the scene. I was in my manager?s office after being away for several weeks attending grad school. He caught me up on what had happened while I was gone, things I needed to attend to. I listened and took notes, all the while waiting to find out whether he was moving to another department, which would make his position empty and give me a last shot at the promotion I wanted. I sat there with a strange mix of calm and anxiousness. I had already determined during my time away that if the answer was no I was going to plan my exit strategy. After 75 minutes, no word. So I casually but deliberately asked him how those plans were working out for him. He quickly told me they weren?t; he was staying. And, quietly, resolutely, to myself I had my BoMo: I was leaving. I had to find the next thing that would give me the internal satisfaction that made a career worthwhile.
We not only have the opportunity to do meaningful work, we have the responsibility to make the most of this rare opportunity. Especially in these challenging times of economic and global unrest, it?s so easy to forget that we live in an unprecedented country. There?s no other nation on earth where I can carve out a life that suits me, especially as a woman. Po Bronson, author of ?What Should I Do with My Life??, says that answering that question ?isn?t just a productivity issue, it?s a moral imperative. It?s how we hold ourselves accountable to the opportunity we?re given. Most of us are blessed with the ultimate privilege: We get to be true to our individual nature. Our economy is so vast that we don?t have to grind it out forever in jobs we hate. For the most part, we get to choose.?
Finding what you love takes time and takes guts. It took me several years to find my new passion and it?s required that I venture into unknown territory. It started with being willing to ask myself how satisfied I was with my career. To face the answer and do something about it took courage. And it took a BoMo fixed in time to give me the resolve to follow-through. I?m not the first person to go through this journey and I won?t be the last. Perhaps you?re next!

Definiteness of purpose is the second of Napoleon Hill?s 17 Success Principles.
Definiteness of purpose, says Dr. Napoleon Hill, is the starting point of all achievement. That should be quite obvious because all travelers know that if you know where you are going, it?s easy to get there; but think of the reverse: if you do not know where you are going how do you get there?
Whatever you want out of life, state if clearly in writing; writing your goal gives it life. Then you must have a clear plan for the achievement of your definite purpose. Once you have created a plan, you must start working that plan immediately whether you are ready or not.
Definiteness of purpose is the key secret of achievement. Many people go through life not knowing what they really want and thus they dissipate their energy on many unrelated things. You must avoid this!
State your definite purpose right now. It should be what you want most in life. Make your goal big and back it up with faith. Keep the thought of your definite purpose constantly in your mind. DR. Hills asserts that ?any dominating idea, plan or purpose, held in the mind through repetition of thought and emotionalized with a burning desire for its realization is taken over by the subconscious mind and acted upon through whatever natural and logical means available?.
The foregoing quote is a great lesson in psychology and it contains the secret of all great achievers. Bulwer wrote:
The man who succeeds above his fellows is the one who early in life clearly discerns his object and towards that object habitually directs his powers, even genius is nothing but fine observation strengthened by fixity of purpose. Everyman who observes vigilantly and resolves steadfastly, grows unconsciously into genius
Embrace this success principle and watch how it will transform your life! Definiteness of purpose helps you to recognize, embrace and act upon, opportunities related to your objective. Dr. Hill says that definiteness of purpose inspires confidence in one?s character and attracts to you the favorable attention of to others. It also makes you success conscious.

It?s great being an underdog.
Just ask the Detroit Tigers, a team of which little was expected. They were able to play under the radar for most of the year, and now that they?ve hit a rough patch, losing a number of recent games, they?re feeling what pressure is about.
Well, not quite.
The Atlanta Braves know something about pressure. While they haven?t won a World Championship in memory, and this year they’re playing poorly, they made it to the playoffs every year, from 1995-2004.
Their club is almost always in the hunt, and I believe it takes something very special to maintain that consistency. You might say the Braves are generally very good, and even better.
Except for this year’s performance, I can?t recall a REALLY BAD Braves team. Maybe, you?d have to go back to Milwaukee or even to Boston to exhume one of those.
Observe Bobbie Cox, the Braves? manager. He looks more like a concerned grandfather than anything else. Seldom getting uncorked or being thrown out of games for misconduct, Cox goes about his business quietly and methodically.
His approach reminds me of what my professor, management guru Peter F. Drucker, used to maintain.
Walk into a well managed business and it will seem BORING. Perennial adolescents in propeller hats aren?t throwing Frisbees across cubicles.
People are going about their duties in a steady, assured manner. It is not like being in an Emergency Room, which is the ambiance of losing organizations that strive to stave off utter chaos and panic.
Winners don?t wonder, ?What?s wrong with us?? or issue press releases that proclaim, ?We?re okay! We still have a pulse!? as the Chicago White Sox have done on more than one occasion this season. (I haven’t seen any soul-searching think pieces from the Braves, though they’re playing under .500.)
Take George Steinbrenner?s hysterics out of the equation, empower General Manager Brian Cashman to make the trades he believes are right, and you have in today’s Yankees almost what I was talking about in the Braves organization.
Joe Torre is about as steady a guy as you?ll find at the helm of any team, like Bobby Cox. And if I recall correctly, wasn?t Mr. Torre a big player for that same Braves organization, and didn’t he manage that team from 1982-1984?
The White Sox took it all last year and were the last team standing, but this year, they?re one of the first to fall.
What The Braves and the Yanks know that the Sox are just learning is this: Winning is only the beginning!
Success is about winning all of the time, as football legend Vince Lombardi pointed out.

?I came up the hard way!? more than one prosperous, self-made man or woman will tell you, with pride in their voices.
And they should be proud.
Becoming successful isn?t always easy.
But is it always as hard as we think?
Not really.
I read about a yogurt store that opened in West Hollywood about a year ago. They only serve two flavors, but they?re a huge hit, so much so, that neighboring businesses are complaining that yogurt fans are taking up all of the choice parking spaces.
What makes them so successful?
In diet and health conscious Los Angeles, serving something tasty that people can eat fast that will be satisfying and not waist enlarging, is a sure path to success.
How difficult is that to figure out?
In fact, as we?re all reading these days, obesity among adults and children, is ?a pandemic.? There are now more overweight than starving and hungry people on the planet.
What opportunities will open up for entrepreneurs that can promise and deliver products and services that will help folks to fight their weight battles?
There have to be innumerable possibilities, wouldn?t you agree?
But will the success motivated step up to serve this growing need?
I was told at an early age that there are at least two ways to become wealthy:
(1) Do something others cannot do, that they find valuable; or
(2) Do something others will not do that they find valuable.
That?s not so difficult, is it?

Have you ever asked yourself, ‘What do I really love about what I’m doing right now? What could I love about it?’
For years, I chased money. I thought if I could just earn a lot of money, I’d be happy.
Boy, was I wrong!
All I did was work harder and harder and never truly got paid enough for what I was putting in. So not only did I not have the amount of money that I really wanted, but I was miserable to boot!
Sure, I put on the happy face and used all the mental techniques to get top performance out of myself. But when the day’s over, you’ve got to be happy doing what you’re doing.
If you’re a student, you’ve got little choice. Go to class and study!
But look to do something after graduation that you’ll love! If you do what you love, you’ll find a way to make your mark.
I remember seeing Larry King interview Steve Irwin, better known as ‘The Crocodile Hunter.’ I thought at the time, he’s a little bit ‘crazy,’ but one thing stood out about him…
He LOVED what he did!
His mother and father were both into animal conservation, so he had little choice about his surroundings as a kid. But he loved it and got really good at it.
None of his friends where he moved to believed that he hunted crocodiles. So he bought one of the first video cameras on the market, and filmed himself wrestling with these crocs. It was AMAZING to watch him do it.
A producer got a hold of one of these tapes and immediately thought, ‘This guy’s crazy! People will love it!’ He was right, and since that moment, Steve’s life was never the same. His show still plays in over 60 countries.
Steve blew me away. And it’s not just animals that flipped his switch. No matter what the subject, he was interested, inquisitive, excited and got all he could out of every experience of his life.
Do you know what the difference was between Steve Irwin and most every other person?
Two things…
One, he loved what he did.
If he were just chasing money, we probably never would’ve heard of him… because he wouldn’t have stayed in animal conservancy. His fame and wealth grew out of his passion for his career.
Two, no matter what he was doing, he’d ask better questions than most people ask all day.
He was always asking, ‘What’s interesting about this?’ ‘How do they do that?’ ‘How can I make this more fun?’ ‘How can we do it better or more efficiently?’ ‘What can we do now that will make this job less boring?’
You see, he had to do a lot of boring work… sitting around observing, writing technical papers, etc. So it’s not all fun and games. But he habitually asked questions that most other people don’t ask…
Every single minute of the day.
How can you make today more fun? How can you make your work easier today, while actually maintaining high quality and/or speed? How can you remember the information more completely?
Keep asking those questions and more like it, and no matter what you do for a living, you’ll be happy and successful.
Empowering Beliefs To Help Control Your Thoughts:
If you want to change your life fast, even though it might seem like it’s slow, then take the statements below, put them on index cards and read them 3 times/day. Morning,
noon and just before you close your eyes at night.
They’ll seep into your consciousness. And since you’ll be saying them so often, you’ll soon begin to believe them. That’s how most beliefs start. Spaced repetition of thought.
Your attitudes will then positively change your emotions, and you’ll be compelled to do more… And you’ll love it.
– I’m doing what I love and I love what I do
– I make my job interesting and fun
– I ask myself empowering questions all day, every day
– I look for the fun in everything and I find it
– Laughing is high on my list of priorities
Empowering Quote:
‘Experience shows that success is due less to ability than to zeal. The winner is he who gives himself to his work, body and soul.’ Charles Buxton

One of the main things that will hold a person back from making money is their failure to change
what they are currently doing. The status quo can be deadly to wealth building efforts. Wealth
building takes courage and a new way thinking. Holding on to the ?this is how we have always
done it? way of thinking can be death to any wealth building strategy. If you want to increase
income then think outside of the box. Do not do what your parents did - unless they are multi-
millionaires. Even if they are, take their wealth building strategy and build on it, improve it,
incorporate you own wealth building techniques into their plan to create a better way of making
money. The world has consistently improved over the decades because someone had a bright
idea of how to make a better mousetrap. It is the same with making money.
Millionaire parents are the minority, though, so this wealth building information is geared toward
the guy who grew up middle class or even dirt poor but is interested in making money and
improving his lifestyle. Though making money is a goal that is desired by many, quite often,
viable wealth building techniques elude them. The main reasons that people fail to take
aggressive steps towards their own wealth building are because of two things: 1. it takes work,
and 2. it takes courage. You have to be willing to work for what you want and take risks to get
there. Making money is no different.
The first wealth building strategy here is that you should be ready and willing to work. Now,
understand that under ?work? falls several sub categories including increase self discipline, avoid
procrastination and be consistent. There is no easy ride when it comes to making money. Sure,
there may be the occasional windfall here or there, but creating a wealth building strategy that
you can count on and that consistently brings cash in takes hard work and focus. Self discipline
will help tremendously in keeping you focused. Keep your eye on the prize and push yourself to
work, to do what needs to be done regardless of how motivated you feel on any given day. This
is also how you avoid procrastination. If something needs to be done, just suck it up and do it. If
it is a large task that makes you feel overwhelmed, get organized. Organization is a wealth
building strategy that will prove invaluable if you use it correctly. Finally, be consistent.
Consistently keep your files organized and up to date, keep your records current, and be
consistent with your discipline and focus.
As far as courage goes when it comes to wealth building, many people tend to be like the
cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz. They talk a good game, growl a lot, but the first time
someone says ?boo? to them they run and hide. And you know what? That is perfectly natural.
It is normal to be afraid of the unknown, of venturing into areas unfamiliar. What is not normal
is when those fears control and cripple us. Wealth building takes courage because it usually
means stepping outside of your comfort zone. Many people lack the self esteem to do this. They
are afraid of failure, they simply think that they are not good enough or smart enough. They are
wrong. Most people have the wealth building abilities in them, but those abilities are untapped
or their existence is not even known. Fear of failure can stop a great wealth building strategy
dead in its tracks. Someone once said, ?Can?t never could.? They were so right. If you believe
that you will fail then you are quite likely to do just that. Having a positive frame of mind,
whether you believe in your ultimate success or not, is integral to increasing income. If you
never take the plunge how will you ever know what is possible, what is out there? Believing in
yourself is the first step.
Venturing into unchartered waters can be scary, but moving away from the status quo can be the
wealth building strategy that catapults you to financial freedom. Some people grow up in
environments that are not conducive to success and wealth building. To take that situation and
turn it into something positive, to rise above the adversity to achieve wealth building success,
those are the true heroes. Adopt a ?can do? attitude; be willing to jump in with both feet and at
least try new ideas and wealth building strategies. Just believe in yourself, do your homework
and get ready to work.

The Butterfly Effect is a wonderful way to propel yourself forward.
I want you to know about the Butterfly Effect. Here’s the basic information. In 1961 at MIT, a researcher named Edward Lorenz worked on a program to predict the weather on different continents. His predictions were quite accurate. Then, at one point he began to notice his weather predictions were off. He tried to calibrate his instruments to see if that was the problem. It wasn’t the problem. What had occurred was the ‘un-cocooning’ and flight of butterflies during a certain season. What came about was the conclusion that the mere fluttering of butterfly wings in San Francisco could change the weather in Japan. This is the Butterfly Effect.
Latter this thought was developed by Quality guru, Deming. He proved in business that if the first 15% of the initial conditions of …a business, marketing idea, team building etc., was correct the remaining 85% of the project becomes effortless!!
What can you learn from the Butterfly Effect? First, it’s important to look at your initial conditions of your ideas in marketing, business, brand etc. Once those initial conditions are in place, you need to take action. Small, consistent action can propel you to great success. Those small successes, original conditions, and intentions will produce the same Butterfly Effect in your own life. Flutter those wings and your life will change!

Most people want to be successful in life. There are goals set and then the hard work begins to reach those goals. The question is what is success? Actually, success can mean different things to different people.
For example, a person that owns their own oil changing service for vehicles might set their level of success at servicing 50 cars a day while someone who loves music might consider success as cutting their own CD. In addition, success does not always have to involve money. Success could be getting a good grade in a difficult class or lesson how to bake the perfect chocolate cake.
Success comes in all different shapes and sizes with one common denominator. Success is important and it takes work to reach.
Regardless of what your specific success is, there are ways to surpass your goal. We have put together 7 tips that can be used for any success you desire. These are ways to better yourself as a person, proven methods you can apply to reach success.
1. Realize your Potential
In order to succeed at anything, you need to see that you have the potential to reach your goals. For example, if you want to be a recording artist but have no singing ability, having success in this field is not likely. However, if you love working on cars and have a real talent for fixing engines and transmissions, and to you, success would mean working for NASCAR, you have potential to learn and achieve that success.
2. Don’t Look Back
Everyone has failures or mistakes from the past, just think of it this way, you are one less failure closer to success. To have success, you need to learn from your past and value those difficult lessons but do not ever dwell on the past. The past has pasted and the exciting future lay’s ahead. Simply move forward and make better, more educated decisions from the lessons learned.
3. Dare to Dream
To succeed, you need to have dreams and aspirations. Be honest with yourself as to what you want out of life and what you want to give of your life. Allow your mind to dream and think big.
4. Business Plan
Create a business plan as your very first step if you are planning to build a business. Whether you will be searching for investors or not, this plan will be the blueprint to your success. The Business Plan will consist of marketing trends, financial planning, competitive analysis, exit strategies, marketing and promotional options, everything about your goal. When going before an investor, you will be required to have a business plan. This is by far the most important document of all. If your success were something personal, you would not need to create a business plan although a project plan would be a good option to allow you to keep track of everything involving your goal.
5. Don’t Give Up
To reach success, you have to persevere. Even Thomas Edison had to learn this. When he was creating the incandescent light bulb, it took him more than 10,000 times to get it right, Keep striving even when it becomes challenging.
6. Desire - Have an Unstoppable Attitude
Desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, and then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches. With the full faith and knowledge your plans you will succeed, with testing, certainly, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches.
7. Goal Setting & Affirmations
You must set detailed goals on what you want to achieve, and the way you want your life to look in the future. It’s like creating a business plan, but it’s your life plan, 90% of people don’t set goals. Ten percent of the world’s population has the majority of the world’s wealth; do you think they set goals?
Once you have set your goals you need to create affirmations.
Affirmations are statements we think or say to ourselves or other people. An example of an affirmation you may of heard is ‘Day by day, in every way, I am getting better and better’. This may sound quaint and old fashioned, which is not surprising, as it was written by Dr Emile Coue, who ran a clinic in France in the early 20th century. The major part of his method to successfully treat thousands of patients, with many different afflictions, was to repeat this affirmation 20 times, twice a day.
He said he never cured anyone, but taught people to cure themselves. However, these cures certainly did occur and are well documented.
Affirmations themselves can be either positive or negative. Saying ‘This always happens to me’ when something goes wrong is an example of a negative affirmation.
Affirmations can be an excellent way to replace negative thoughts and feelings with empowering self beliefs and character traits.
There is no better gratification than being successful. Accept that you are in for some hard work but the results will be incredible. Take action and succeed!
